My email to techforum@echostar.com said "The answer is 2073600 pixels", and I hit send at the most 8 or 15 seconds after the the question was asked.
My computer was in standby and my create new mail thing was already open, as soon as Dave and Mark said that they were going to ask the question, I put my computer out of standby and the email addy and the subject was already filled in and I had a calculator in my desk and I calculated it as fast as possible, and typed as fast as I could and I spent just one or 2 seconds to double check than I typed 2073600 right, and then I it send.
I think the fact that I used my yahoo email instead of my comcast email may have been why I lost.
Next time I won't double check and just hit send as fast as possible.
It's really tough to have beaten me more than a second or 3 because I emailed almost as fast as humanly possible.
BTW, I have the email saved in my yahoo sent mail folder, and the time for it in my email header reads "Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2003 18:40:34 -0700 (PDT)"

Sometimes emails are held up at the sender or receiver's servers. Email is not always instantly delivered. It is a game of luck.

Maybe it was just the first correct email that they read and not nessesarily the first to arrive.

I would concur with Jerry, the Email server would have a lot to do with this. I suggest that if you have two email acccounts send and test email from one to the other and test the time. Each email account should be from a different domain.

Though this is not a true fair test, it might give you a clue why and how long your email takes to get to another person. Maybe somepeople have their own email server and use it... This way they could control the setting of the server and assure a quick email send.

Hmmmm Maybe I should configure an email server ... ;)

jack, that is a good idea. Send a test email from yourself at Yahoo to Comcast and one the other way and let us know, how long each take.

Really!

Thanks to everyone who replied for the tips and opinions.
I'll try the tips for the next tech forum contest, I just hope I know the answer to that question as well.
It would be really cool if they always had the contest via email on the Charlie Chat too, but the prizes on the Charlie Chat do usually suck compared to the great prizes on the Tech Forum.

They can't give away anything that costs too much when Charlie is watching:grin:

One thought ...
They never gave what they thought was the correct answer on air.
I've been reading the Samsung DTV Guide and they say that the number
of pixels in a 1080i format frame is 1036800. Perhaps Charlie's gang had that answer as well.

BTW: The fastest way to send email is direct to their server. Set your email client SMTP server to mailin1.echostar.com and you'll skip any hops added by your ISP ... :D
