I am having a very diffucult time setting up my Dish 500 system. I think my problem seems to be with my legacy twin lnb. Here's the situation:

I aim my dish and run through the check switch and it does detect it as a 500 twin. When i try to get both sats I am only able to get one and this is shown in both signal strength bars. I have tried to move the lnb side to side by placing only one side into the plastic Y-adapter and the other side hanging to the outside of the dish. When I do this, depending on which side I move it to I am able to get 110 or 119 to show up in both signal strength bars.

I noticed that when I placed my hand over one side of the lnb the signal was lost but nothing happend when I placed my hand over the other lnb.

I have tried all combinations with switching the cable from one side to another and nothing helps to get both sats. When I am locked on one sat adjusting skew, azimuth or elevation only changes the signal strenght for one sat but does nothing to get both sats.

The twin lnb I bought used, I was told that it was working. When I tried the other day it was very windy and I was able to get both sats but only for 2-3 seconds. Both signal strength bars were green and showing both 110 and 119.

What am I doing wrong? Is my aiming bad? Is setting up a dish 500 system this difficult, is the aiming really touchy? Is one of the lnbs bad? Unfortunately I think one of the lnbs is bad, but how was I able, even for a brief second, able to get both sats. Is there anyway that I can check to be certain that both lnbs are working? How can I take the lnb apart?

Any help that you can supply me with is very very much appreciated.

Thank You so very much,
Ryan

First disconnect sat feed and run switch test. To clear the test switch info.

Try covering the one LNB with a piece of alumnimum foil, then adjust the dish to get THE UNCOVERED ONE at the proper location. Then uncover the remaining LNB and run switch test. The numbers are marked on the plastic Y adapter.

you might have a flakey lnb.

Theres also a SLIGHT chance you have a bad cable, so try putting the receiver and tv right at the dish and use a different cable for following the directions above.
