After a Dish receiver downloads a new program version, why could the box not be instructed to reset itself? It seems simple enough to do. Everytime I get a new software version, I am unaware of it until I start experiencing glitches and a reboot always cures the problem. Is this so hard to do?

While you're at it, how about adding an option to timers to power off after record, even if there has been operator intervention during the recording? I have timers go almost daily as late as Letterman and can't turn it off once I go to bed. This would be a great feature to implement.

That's the feature i want the most on my 508 right now. Second most would be a redesigned recorded shows menu where the current show can be viewed in the corner, like the 721. An option to set a timer, not by once, weekly, daily or mon-fri, but actually be able to pick the days of the week you want it to record.

For example: Record show xxx Mon, Wed, and Thurs at 12am.

If they had the receivers shut themselves off when software started downloading people may just turn it right back on preventing the download, call Dish asking why their receivers were shutting off themselves, and so forth. Perhaps a message on the screen that software downloading is in progress would be a good solution to this, as I have seen on the Dishplayers (7100/7200).
