Would I be able to receive the satellite signal here in WA State on the coast?
I can't pick up any satellites lower than 82 deg. without my big dish touching the ground, but maybe that is because it was not installed high enough. It makes me wonder though.

Is it even possible to receive a satellite at 61.5 deg. orbital location here in WA State on the coast?
Would the signal be any good?
We get lots of rain and wind on the coast.

Zip code 98631

If this is true, why would Voom pick a satellite so low in the sky it would not work from the Northwest.

Thanks for any help

This site will tell you the azimuth and elevation. Jut type in your lat/lon and the satellite longitude.

It works great and the little 3-D sun/moon motion thing is hypnotizing!

here is a site:
http://www.zipinfo.com/search/zipcode.htm

Also you can use Delorme Street Atlas and the cursor will tell where you are lat/lon.

Or you can go to http://www.topozone.com and type in your town and it should come back wit it and the approximate lat/lon.

I don't mean to be dense (but it will seem that way), but how the heck is this supposed to be interpreted? I can read the azimuth and elevation, but stupid me can't yet tell if the bird will be visible for Western Oregon. I get ~111 Azimuth, ~11 elevation. Based on the definitions of azimuth it would appear that this bird is low on the ESE horizon. Can anyone confirm?

I don't mean to be dense (but it will seem that way), but how the heck is this supposed to be interpreted? Take a compass outside and find 111º (the direction of the azimuth if magnetic). Turn that compass sideways and look 11º (your elevation) above the horizon. 11º isn't much to clear trees and buildings.

Oregon would be a long shot ... no pun intended.

Or visit LyngSat (http://www.lyngsat.com/tracker/rain1.shtml) and click on your location in the picture.

BTW: It still doesn't answer whether or not VOOM's signal is powerful enough at your location. 148º is an easy shot from Hawaii but E*'s satellites shoot the mainland, not the islands.

You're right, Oregon is a long shot... :) but that's ok. I have a clear shot to the ESE, but there's this mountain range called the Cascades that looms to that direction. I'm on the eastern edge of the Willamette Valley at the base of the Cascades. I bet Voom will not be an option for most Left Coasters...

Thanks for the help.
