I have historically been unimpressed with the picture quality on a 32" set from my 508. The high contrast scenes have been great but low contrast scenes seemed to be filled with blockiness. As a result, I have not bothered to use this signal to go through a line doubler or other scaler and run it into my CRT projector and onto an 80x45 screen. I recently did the 6000 deal and have been watching some of the HD programs along with OTA HD which I had watched with my other HD receiver. Last night I was surfing channels and happened to stop on the Action channel which was running Pearl Harbor. I have to say that the 6000 did a very nice job of upconverting that signal. I really did not notice any blockiness during the program and the picture was seemless with no visible lines. Although it did not have the punch that an HD program has, it was very good to watch and the sound was excellent and full of bass. My opinion has been changed and I am looking forward to watching some other non HD channels on the larger screen. I am also feeling very pleased with my purchase of the 6000.

Here's something cool I do: I have a 96x54 screen and my 501 sits in another room. I ran the RF output from the 501 to an RF combiner and combined it with the OTA cable from my antenna into the 6000 8vsb and assigned channel 3 in my local analog channels and called it "501". I can now watch and control my 501 via an HD upconvert on my 6000 viewing it as channel 3. The picture is not too bad at all, considering where it came from and how it got there.

Nice trick. I was piping my 508 to the bedroom via an external modulator and using a 2nd RF remote to control it. Your suggestion brings back the Guide PIP which is my main complaint with the 6000. I'll give it a try.
