A friend of mine is looking into upgrading to HD from Dish Network, so he did a search and ran across this thread.

"DO NOT BUY A DISH NETWORK HDTV SYSTEM. Or else you will be sorry"

I thought this would bring up some interesting views and good information as well by posting it. If any of you have seen or has been posted already please disregard.

A lot of people want the latest and greatest high tech equipment but do no research before they buy. Then they are disappointed when things don't work out.

I spent several months reading this and other forums before I purchased my HD set and my Dish 6000. I did the installation myself.

I know several people who want satellite and/or HDTV who have never been able to set the clock on their 1980's VCR.

A case in point is my neighbor who has a $200,000.00 motor home that came with Dishnetwork installed. He asked me several times to come over and show him how to operate it and point his dish. He refuses to take any notes. Every time he comes back from a trip he is cussing out Dishnetwork. Every time I go over to help him out, the problem is he does not have his rf outputs set correctly or the TV is not on Channel 3. He also does not have the patience it takes to align the dish.

Last time I saw him he had a set of rabbit ears sticking out the window of his motor home.

Ah! the Joys of the 8VSB fan. Its well known around here.

I actually measured the decibels coming off of my 2 year old 8VSB. It peaks at 62 fluctuating down to 58. Call it 60 db average. I have my 6000 in a cabinet with glass doors. It's tolerable. I'm going to need to break down the equipment next week, carpet coming. I think I'll give it the drop of 3 in 1 oil that I've read about that is supposed to bring it down to a whisper.

I have kept my 6000 in a cabinet behind a glass door as well. Today I took my door off to try and cushion the glass a little better so that it doesn't rattle when the bass hits hard. It's been off all night and I have yet to hear the fan.

Who knows... maybe my 6000 was a refurb because someone thought the fan was too loud and Dish oiled it and reboxed it.

It's been off all night and I have yet to hear the fan.People's sensitivity to specific frequencies varies greatly. Consider yourself lucky.

I have two 6000 units, purchased them a couple years ago. I’ll have to consider myself lucky, I never knew there was/is a fan in these units.
I just pulled them out of their cabinet, put the old ear next to them, no noise, just some heat. I wonder if Dish got a bad supply of fans that are noisy?

Do you have the 8VSB modules installed for OTA? If you put your ear next to a 6000 with the module installed you gotta hear some fan noise.

Yep.... I can hear fan noise when I get within a few feet of the unit. Sounds more like a clock ticking fast...okay, a bad clock. It's not loud enough to be annoying to me though. Then again my hearing is not the best.

my wife gives me **** about the 2 tv's I have taken back because of high pitch noise before getting a Toshiba so me getting a 6000 hearing about all these fan issues I think I will pass :( Heck my RCA DVD player makes high pitch noises hearing the disc spin inside thru a whole movie.

I disabled the fan in 6000 because it was so loud. My father has a 6000 and his fan isn't all that bad.

That thread over at the EZboard has to be the best example of Joe Six Pack syndrome I have ever seen. It's no wonder the WalMart mentality is king. :(
