Hi,
I am interested in getting Directv with Tivo and see these 2 units offered in and around the ‘net at pretty good prices (Hughes HDVR2 and Phillips DSR-7000D). Are there any substantial differences between these 2 units? How about reliability? Is one “better” than the other?

Thanks in advance,

Bart

There is no difference functionally the Phillips has an exposed Access card the Hughes has a door. My Phillips remote operates my Hughes TiVo the same instructions are on the same pages of the instruction manuals. They are the same units.

That's the ONLY problem I have with the Phillips unit, and that's the exposed card.... especially if you have kids running around.

The door on my HDVR2 is also fairly hard to open, but then again, it isn't expected to be opened or closed that often.

The HBH-SA receivers have the access card in the back. Out of sight, out of harm's way.

Best Buy has the Philips at the $99 price, same as Circuit city's Hughes..
