Dish just killed my Tivo interaction with their latest firmware so it looks like i will have to make a switch.
I have a couple of questions:
1. What is the best HD receiver to get. Unlike D*, I see that Hughes, Sony, and Samsung all have receivers. Also, I need the receiver to do two things (one my current 6000 box does not even do)
a. UHF remote
b. RF (modulated) out for other room distribution
2. What is the latest timeframe on a DTV HD PVR/Tivo?

Latest RUMORED timeframe for the HD Directivo is February....MSRP of $600 (For new subs) around 799.00 for current subs as apparently D* wants to keep the price down to around $200 less than what the price of what E* is charging for the 921 and will be monitoring any pricing changes on the 921.
It will have...2 HD/SD satellite tuners....2 OTA tuners for a total of 4 tuners.......250G Hard Drive made by Tivo and branded by Hughes

I can't answer your #1 other then to say I have a Hughes E-86 and it's great. The Samsung is also the cheaper model and works quite well from what I hear. Visit the AVS Forums for detailed reviews from users on any model you are looking at.
#2) 1st quarter 2004 is the latest.
As for your latest firmware, you might want to check in on the TivoCommunity to see if there is a fix or whatnot. I have not seen any discussions about Dish receivers all of a sudden not working with Tivo so there might be something wrong with your setup. Post over there in the Help forum all your hardware specs and what exactly the issue is and someone should be able to help. http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/index.php?s=
Hughes E86 can't do both SD & HD at the same time it's one or the other. Samsung does both SD & HD and has a Ch 3/4 RFout. No TiVo has a UHF remote but you can use adapters.

On #1, the UHF and RF is critical for my multi-room setup. We only have two viewers in my house so multiple receivers is a waste of cash.
If 1Q04 is the timeframe, then I will wait for that box to release.
The Tivo/Dish6000v781 firmware issue has been confirmed here by others in the Dish forum as well as many posts on the Tivocommunity forums. Thanks.

So the samsung simultaneously outputs to the DVI/component as well as the SD on S-video...thats sweet since the Dish 6000 is mutually exclusive.
I am not interested in the Tivo box being UHF, I just want my main receiver on my main floor to have it...Does the Samsung have a UHF remote?
I love Samsung products...I have a HLM501 DLP projector and it is SWEET!
