Does the 508 receiver have an IR sensor, along with the UHF antenna for getting remote signals.

I am thinking about buying a Home Theatre remote (HMT MX-700) that is IR only, and I need to know that it will control the 508. The PDF document on the Dish website does mention the remote is IR and UF, but I was wondering if that was for controlling other devices only?

Anybody out there controlling there 508 (5 series) with a universal IR remote?

Sorry Fat Tony the 5000 was the last receiver DISH made that was UHF only. The 508 will work with both IR/UHF. In fact most of the 5000 were both IR/UHF only the earliest production units were UHF.

I have a 510 receiver which is pretty much the same as 508 except for the hard disk space. The remote is both IR and UF to controll the receiver and it is only IR for other devices. And I use my Sony RM-VL900 universal remote to control the 510. The universal remote had preset code for basic functions and I had learned other function keys. Pretty much I can do everything from the universal remote that I could do with 510 remote.
