I just got my 510 installed, and i hooked up the optical cable to the back or my 510 and my kenwood home theater. But no sound comes out. I have it in the correct mode for the place i put the optical cable, and that is the CD/DVD one (and thats the only one). I dont know y im not getting any sound, but from my red and white RCA cables, i get fine sound.

You may have to go into the setup menus on your 510 and enable "PCM / Dolby Digital" (both). This is assuming that your A/V receiver will autoswitch on the decoding as well.

Yeah it will. I went to the menu and selected each of them, but none worked. My digital coaxial works fine for the DVD, so i dont know y the Optical wouldnt
I am having that exact same problem on my 508 right now. I was watching TV and all of a sudden the audio stopped working. The DVD player audio works but the DVR will not.
I don't want to pull the thing apart because I am about to go out and don't want to deal with the thing when I return. I am really frustrated, I have tried everything though.

Nevermind this you guys. Sorry for the ridiculous post. I totally forgot that i had to change the CD/DVD mode to F-Auto so it will auto select. Thanks for reminding me about it though scooper

I am really frustrated, I have tried everything though.DD/dts capable A/V receivers such as your have both analog & digital inputs for the same sources. And they have to know which input you want to use. So most of them have DIGITAL/ANALOG buttons (either toggled or discrete) and the better one have an AUTO mode that will always lock onto the digital bitstream if present.
So I suggest you make sure you A/V rcvr is in the DIGITAL or AUTO mode if you havn't already done so.
BTW, you can verify if your 508 is outputting the digital signal by just looking for the red light at the end of the optical cable that feeds your A/V rcvr. You may also want to make sure your TosLink connections are secure while you're at it. They've been known to work loose.
