I am a neophyte in this arena and hope this is possible.
If I use the 510 on my non hdtv to record something. Is there anyway to watch it on my larger t.v. in the family room. I plan on having an 811 hooked up to the family room t.v.
We are talking a 27" picture veruses a 42" sd picture on my Sony Wega.
TIA
You can route the CH 3/4 output to the larger TV and watch it. The 510 remote is UHF so you can take the remote to the second TV and control the 510 from that location. Or if you can't get the cable to the second TV you can get wireless signal senders to send a radio signal 900 MHZ. or 2.4GHZ. like cordless phones, these are subject to interference though.
As a matter of fact, you can use a signal combiner to add the 510 RF output ("To TV") to the OTA RF input on the 811, when you get it, and the 510 will appear in the guide along with your OTA locals. You can even lable the channel (3 or 4) "DVR," "510," or whatever.

I have heard some not so good things about signal combiners. Is there a particular brand that you could recommend.

TIAAs far as I can tell, all the ones I've seen are identical whether they are branded "Tru-Spec," 'Centronix," etc. Undoubtedly they all come from one OEM even tho, depending on the brand name & vender, they sell for $9.95 to $19.95.
They work fine unless you happen to have extremely strong reception of an adjacent OTA broadcast station. If you use the 8VSB OTA tuner in the 811 exclusively for digitals you won't have any problem. (Well, the exception that may prove the rule is Chicago since one of their digitals is on Ch 3.)

If you have Dolby Digital in either location, I'd suggest putting the 510 there (even if it means stacking the 510 and 811 on top of each other). Then, run the RF to the other set (most likely the smaller one).

How loud are the 510/50x Units? I want to put one in the bedroom, but I like the room quiet at night. I could route it up via RF from the basement if needed.

I don't have DD. After further research I am starting to look a little bit harder at this solution.

From what it says I believe it will do what I need done.
I only hope the 811 and superdish has all the bugs worked out of them when I finally get it next month.
Thanks for your input. It is appreciated.

I backfeed 501 from LR to BR but, being the sound sleeper that I am, I'd bet I could live with one in there.

I have a pair of those sitting in the basement (same thing from X10 I believe).
I couldn't get ANY useful piture from them. They are VERY sensitive to 2.4 gig interference (like you may lose your picture when the micro wave is on). Even yours or a neighbors 2.4 gig phone may cause problems.
Yes, I tried all the channels, but a spread spectrum 2.4 gigger sucks multiple channels simultaneously.
I'd suffer with running the cable - you'll be happier in the long run.

re: 508 noise
It's really a very quiet unit. But, you might hear it if the fan kicks in (but you'd have to have a VERY hot ambient environment for that to happen). Do remember, that any PVR should not be operated in an enclosed cabinet. It MUST have open air around it.
