It is entirely possible that you ARE in the Albany DMA. I grew up in Massachusetts and the town I was in is part of the Albany DMA. The link above should help you determine if you are. This link will take you to a DMA map of NY state.

If you are not in the Albany DMA you are in SOME DMA. I do not know if DISH or DTV carries locals in tyour DMA---because I dont know which one you are in.

I would not suggest lying about your address if there is no need to.

Thanks Geronimo, and I wasn't even considering lying bout anything. It's hard to believe some people would risk that, much less suggest it on a thread, unless it was meant as a joke. BTW, I just called dish and was told I will get the locals but will need to upgrade to the superdish, from my dish 500, which they will do for free. How do you like the 508?

I like the 508 but I would be surprised if they have them in stock., Youa re more likely to be offered a 510 which hasa larger hard drive and a monthly fee.

Enjoy WTEN, WRGB, and the rest of those albany locals. Wher I grew up I got those two fairly well but 13 which was then WAST came in very snowy and 17 WTMH was basically unwatchable.

And people were serious about faking the address. It is discussed frequently here. I do not happen to approve but many others differe witt me on that.

But enjoy!

G, I grew up a mile away from WRGB, so I always watched channels 6, 10 and 13. It'll be great to get them again, and in sat picture quality! They won't work with my dp though, so I'll have to get a new receiver, and use the dp as my second unit. Is the 510 bug free?

The 5xx family is significantly better than the DP in terms of stability. But bug free it is not. I actually prefer the DP interface. and search functions. But MY Dp hads done a lot of weird things over the years.

How is the dp interface different, and are there any links showing what the 5xx receivers interface looks like?

The menus etc are different. I really think that the one area that Microsoft and DISH did a good job was on that user interface.

The search function is also more limited and tehre is no keyboard. i bought acheap WebTV keyboard on clearance and it really helps to find programs to record.
