I have been having a problem with not being able to delete shows on the 721. After the show is over I press “stop”, then “erase”, then choose “yes”, and I am brought back to the main menu where I can erase the show again after it hangs for about 30 seconds. When this happens I can look at the program guide, but when I click to watch something on the program guide I am brought back the show I can not delete. I am able to press the “PIP”, then “swap”, and then I can delete the show I was watching. This has been happening to me about every 4-5 days now and the only way I am able to fix it is to unplug the 721 and plug it back in. I called Dish and they are going to send me a rebuilt 721. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I am a little worried about getting a rebuilt PVR, but I guess it will work better than mine has.

This happened to me this morning, it was the first time I have seen this myself.

It was wierd when I went to clean up the show I was trying to delete was greyed out.

When I went to pip I was able to delete it.

The 721 sometimes develops some very strange problems. Quite often a re-boot will clear up some of those problems. To re-boot your 721 hold in the power button on the front of the receiver for about 6 seconds. The re-boot will take a few minutes and hopefully your 721 will operate as it should.

I experienced the same problem since upgrading. I finally had to pull the card before I could erase.

I forgot to mention that pulling the card will also cause a re-boot.

Sott are you on beta software or have what we have. Did your old beta software have all these bugs?

I think this is related to the non responsive remote. BTW when this happens the front panels buttons dont work either. 721 = bugs:(

I was having problems deleting programs on my 721 also. It seemed to be related to my tuner 2 going bad. Tuner 2 was pixelating, getting an "aquiring signal" every 2 seconds, etc... Tuner 1 was fine. Doing the usual stuff like doing a check switch, swapping the tuner cables, etc., didn't make a difference. Later, after I called tech support and got my 721 RMA'ed, I felt the side of my 721 and it was super hot to the touch. I'm wondering if they screwed up the fan algorithm in the latest software and the heat issues are starting to cause all sorts of problems.

I see the same problem. It started occurring only a couple days ago and can seem to only be cleared by a reboot (though I didn't try the PIP trick).

Whenever I watch a recorded show and try to erase it, the machine seems to lock up on me. After a reboot, I can delete the show and everything works fine until I watch then try to erase another show.

Since others are seeing this, it's probably a software problem -- perhaps one associated with the firmware in a batch of 721's.

Me too. I am rebooting constantly. The last boot will be the 721 out the door. Honestly I think this ones related to the non responsive remote bug. Trying to delete might set it off.

Did theyy even TEST this software release?

You don't usually need to reboot for this one. I've found if you delete the program and nothing happens, 9 times out of ten if you go back in and select Delete a second time it actually deletes. I don't reboot the unit unless it locks or something. I do find the unit is generally more stable if you "power off" over night.

saw this myself last night exactly as described. I forgot to try the pip swap trick but a reboot did fix it.

Right, I saw the same thing, BUT, once this started happening, it happened EVERY time until I rebooted. (you CAN go BACK in and hit delete, BUT you will have to do that every time).

Well I just got my new 721. I guess this sounds more like a software bug than hardware. I will let you guys know if I still have the same problem. This did not happen to me all the time, but it would happen about every 4 days or so. When it did happen I was not able to delete the show, even if I went back and tried again until I rebooted the machine. I could delete it by using the swap trick with the PIP, but try to explain that to the wife:)

I have the DELETE bug as well but it will not let me delete until I PIP or use a trick my wife told me - press START OVER, then STOP, then DELETE. That seems to work.

Apparently, if you are viewing into the padded time at the end, it won't delete.

Well it just happened again with the new box they sent. Guess the DELETE bug is some bad software. I hope they fix it soon, this software was in beta for way to long to have this many bugs. I know my windows locks up sometimes, but sheesh that is an entire OS. I miss my Replay TV, but I just love having the 2 tuners to record from.

It must be a software issue seeing all the people having this issue including myself and this issue not coming up until 1.15 was released.

Same problem here. I had my first 721 lose Tuner 2 after about 15 months. The new one is giving me the "No Delete" error. And it won't go back to live TV with a Cancel either. Tech Support had me run the check switch without the cables attached the first call and the second time I called they had me hold the front panel button for 1 minute for some kind of reset.

They also told me to shut the PVR off every couple nights. I think its a software bug.

if you use PIP then swap tuners. finally exit pip. you can erase the show without a reboot.

I reboot my 721 every morning, its working much better now.

Perhaps that can help others. must be software.

Sounds like they hired Microsoft to write their software. No wait, even Windows isn't this bad anymore. Ugh.

Smaller, well tested releases guys. You hold back for these mega releases and look what happens.
