The new info is up on the Dishnetwork site and I noticed the following statement included in the terms:
If exchanging a current receiver for the DISH Player-DVR 510 satellite TV receiver, the original receiver must be returned to DISH Network. A $50 Equipment Return Fee will be applied if the original receiver is not returned to DISH Network.
I'm sure its something simple, but what does this mean? Thanks

Might be for DHP customers?
Yes, this applies to DHP subs. If they're not adding the 510 to their acct as an additional rcvr but merely exchanging it for an existing one they must return the old one since it is still the property of E*.

I kind of suspected that, but it did not say one way or the other.

Actually, the Terms and Conditions on the web site specifically say:
Current customers only. Offer ends 1/31/04. Separate offer available to customers currently enrolled in the Digital Dynamite / Digital Home Plans (call for details). Customer purchases a DISH Player-DVR 510 satellite TV receiver at a special price of $99 (MSRP $299), agrees to purchase 12 consecutive months of America's Top 50 or DISH Latino programming package, enrolls in Credit Card AutoPay, and receives free Standard Professional Installation of one receiver (MSRP $119). $24.95 equipment and handling fee may apply. Free equipment and handling with current or new enrollment in Credit Card Autopay. If the customer downgrades their basic programming package below America’s Top 50 DISH Latino or deactivates the DISH Player-DVR 510 satellite TV receiver at any time during the agreement period, they will be assessed a $240 Cancellation Fee. Limit 1 $99 DISH Player-DVR 510 upgrade offer per household. If exchanging a current receiver for the DISH Player-DVR 510 satellite TV receiver, the original receiver must be returned to DISH Network. A $50 Equipment Return Fee will be applied if the original receiver is not returned to DISH Network. Additional DISH Player-DVR 510 receivers may be purchased at regular price. Free Standard Professional Installation in this offer only available through DISH Network and participating retailers. Includes hook-up of up to one receiver to one TV and equipment testing. Other installation restrictions apply.
See where it says there's a separate offer for DHP people?
It definitely sounds like they want your old receiver to help subsidize the cost of the 510.

Okay, can someone on the retail side here in the forum verify this please? This sort of throws a wrench in an otherwise good deal. Thanks

Depends on the deal..... If the reciever you return is a 301, 2700, etc. it will make sense t send back the receiver. If you have a dishplayer that will fetch $200-400 used then pay the $50 and pocket the difference when you sell it.

Or be really sneaky, deactivate your old receiver, wait a few days, then try this offer...

That sounds good to me. :)

I feel sneaky, heck my 4900 costs me $300 or more when new.
I just checked the business rules....Each customer who qualifies can request the 510 as a swap with an existing active receiver or the 510 can be added on to their account as an additional receiver...
In all cases where the customer requests DISH Player-DVR 510 as a replacement for an existing receiver (“Swap Option”), the customer will be required to surrender the replaced receiver (the receiver that was deactivated and replaced)...So the new wrinkle (or clarification) in this version of the upgrade promotion is that E* insists that it really is an upgrade - either the receiver or the account.
Previously, the return of the old receiver was negotiable with a retailer altho it has been reported that many people who did the upgrade thru DISH direct were told by the DNSC installer they had to surrender the old model.

So, you either add it as a new receiver, thus a second or third receiver charge or give them back which ever receiver you want to give up. We have a 7100 and a 2700, so I guess the latter is going bye bye.

I just got off the phone with DISH to do the "upgrade." You have it correct. give them an old receiver or add as a new receiver.
Or be really sneaky, deactivate your old receiver, wait a few days, then try this offer...You have to give up a currently active receiver for exchange. If you want to keep what you have you can add it to your account but of course there will be a(nother) $4.99 a/o fee.

You're mis-understanding - I don't WANT to give up any of my currents, but I don't need 3 receivers active either. The idea is to keep the extra as a backup for when the 510 craps (notice I did not say IF).

Just drop one receiver before you do the upgrade to a 510 . Say wait one week after dropping the old receiver then call for the upgrade and add the 510- as the new receiver. There you go, you don't have to offer the old receiver as a trade in to get the 510 deal. You simply add the 510 as an extra receiver. You then can take the old receiver and e-bay it or trade it in to Dishdepot.com as money down on the new 522 or 921 receiver.

the 4.99 fee that they talk about is for an additional receiver fee which you will pay anyway if you add another receiver - I also called and signed up for the two year\ free 510 deal + 24.95 S&H
That's all you have to pay if you sign up for 2 yrs. and your a non DHP customer

Just another quick question. Do you get to keep the smart card or damage it before the installer takes it away? There are some dealers out there that do some weird things with used products.

Question if I am prepayed for americas Everything pack untill Jan will I start geting charged $4.98 DVR fees after that if I change my package to AT 150 ?
Just a note for anyone who wants the info. I just called and did the 510 upgrade. (thanks for the info from here or I would have missed out) But I purchased my equipment about two years ago. I have a 301 and a 2800. I talked to the csr about the offer i heard from you guys. And asked about the $24.95 if I could add it to my bill or pay now. And let her know I was willing to do the 2 year thing. She checked and since I was going to not add it as a third receiver and just return my 2800, and move my 301 to the BR and put the new 510 in the LR that there wasn't a 24.95 charge and I didn't have to do the credit card auto pay. So in short I got it absolutely free as long as I did the 2 year commitment for at least top 50. I get the 510 plus the one year warranty on it and just have to turn in my old 2800 which I wanted to replace anyhow. Works out great for me. BUt just thought I would let everyone know.
Also I want to thank you all for being here. I have learned so much every time I visit here. :D
Larry
This is not an upgrade offer it is a "TRADE IN OFFER". DISH wants to steal your old receiver and you pay to send/ship the receiver back to them. If you give them the receiver you have lost the ability to have a spare receiver and you also lose the ability to recover the cost of the upgrade by selling "YOUR" old receiver. And with the 510 you will pay a $4.98/receiver DVOD FEE if you are at any programming level below AEP.

Dish is not stealing a thing boba. It is an upgrade offer, you can send in your old receiver and its replaced with a better model (assuming you consider the 510 better). Hell, I'm getting a $300 DVR in exchange for my 4900 which couldn't fetch more than $40 on eBay.
Oh, and if you really want to keep that old receiver, its only a $50 fee too.

I'm a DHP subscriber with a 301 and a 501. I called yesterday and ordered a 510 added to my account. They charged me $49.95 and it will cost me $10 a month extra, $5.00 for the extra reciever fee, and $5.00 for the PVR fee. The best part is that they are sending out an installer to connect the 3rd reciever and included a sw44 switch at no cost.

I asked about the "you pay" part. If they ship the 510 to you return labels are included, they pay the shipping. If they send an installer, the installer takes the receiver with him/her. Either option is of no cost to you.

I called today and also got the 510. A great deal, in my opinion.
I was told I did not need to sign up for credit card autopay. They are shipping the receiver for free to my house via UPS and are sending return lables for the other receiver.
I was told they would ship the 510 tommorow.
Thanks Dish!

Rollua1, I am definately not an expert on this guy, but to try to help everything I have read on here and the dish website and in the promo stuff and some other sites is that if you have the everything pack there is no DVR charge. If you have Top 150 or Top 100 the charge is $4.98 if you have Top 50 it is lik $9.98. That is what I have seen so far. However when I talked to dish and ordered mine I had the Everything pack and they reminded me about the charge. So I would just call and ask. However it was kind of a moot point for me because of time and money and stuff for me right now I also downgraded from the Everything pack to the Top 150. But that is my experience but I would suggest just give them a ring and ask for sure.

I've got dish coming out this weekend to swap in a 510 for one of my 301's. I am DHP and I forgot to ask when I ordered, Is the 510 dish's, like the 301's, or will I own the 510 after the 12 months?

I am a DHP subscriber with three 301's and a 501. Can I replace one of my 301's with a 510 under this new plan.
My question to all of you is this.. Do you feel the 510 is a better machine than the 522 which is why you are jumping on this deal now? If so, what is better about the 510 over the 522?? (other than it is real and available right now)?

Bingo !
Free (for a 2 year commitment) makes it almost a no-brainer.

The $24.95 fee, does that have to paid for over the phone before shipment or can I pay it when I go to activate the receiver? Also, if I did CC autopay (I really don't want to, but if I have to) couldn't I just cancel it withen the next week and go back to paying my bill like before?

Also- There was no charge for shipping when I called.
So- my advice would be to call and ask. If they want you to pay for shipping and sign up for CC Autopay, call back later.

I just got off the phone with the CSR and he told me that if I didn't do CC Autopay they would just bill me the $24.95. Tech will be out this Sat to install it. Since I'm adding it as a 3rd receiver they will have to upgrade my LNB from a dual to a quad, and I was told that it was included. :)

I'm pretty new here but wanted to know if it is possible to run the 510 and 6000U on the same tv. I have a 301 in the bedroom and a 600U in the living room. I want to put a 510 in the living room too but don't know if it is posible.

Iceberg,
This is not a simple question. First off you would have to have two cable runs from the Dish/Switch to your living room. Next you have to have a enough inputs on your TV to support both Tuners.
It would help if you would provide the hardware that you currently have. The short answer would be yes if you have the proper hardware in place. Proper hardware being two cables, the right Dish/Switch, and enough TV inputs.

Best if you had a A/V receiver with multiple video inputs (how else to enjoy that Dolby Digital 5.1 sound?)
You could do it, just relaize you will pay an extra $5 a month additional receiver charge for the privilege.)
I ALMOST did something similar when they dumped the 6000's last month, but decided to wait for the 921 instead.
Which reminds me..... November is TOMORROW!!!!!! Any word on a 921 release date? (Jeez, I'm worse than an 8 year old in December waiting for Christmas to arrive)

I have a 501,721 and 6000 all hooked to same tv. You will need to change the remote address so they don't interfear with each other. All 3 receivers also feeds 2 other tv's.

Larry, when you downgraded to top150 (Which I Assume costs the $5 downgrade fee?) Did you have to pay the $4.95 DVR charge after that?

Yes. They pro rated it for what was left of that month after downgrading. and then from then on I should have the dvr fee from what they explained and in customer service area it shows I have a partial month charge of the dvr fee.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
I just got of the phone with cust. service. I am on the DHP, they are swapping out one of my 301's with the 510 for $49.99. They are coming out to "install" it so I will have no shipping costs either way. Now I have 2 pvr's (already have a 501).
