I am currently a DHP customer who signed up approx 1.5 years ago so am no longer under contract. I just got a new Sony GWIII HDTV, and am itching for some HD programming to exercise the TV with.
After some research, it appears to me that Dish has no DHP plans for HDTV unless I choose to pay full price for their 6000 receiver. Because of this, I am leaning towards cancelling my Dish programming, and moving to my local cable company who is offering some HD channels (ESPN, Disc, HBO, Show, PPV, ...).
Does anyone have any info on how I may be able to stay with Dish and get HD programming and hardware for a reasonable price? I have seen some great plans floating around on here for NEW DHP customers to get 811 and 522 receivers that I would love to take advantage of, but doubt I can as an existing customer.
Could I switch to cable, enjoy their programming for a few months or so, then re-join Dish and take advantage of the new DHP plans when they are available? I really do prefer Dish and want to stay, but they just don't seem to have any compelling plan or upgrade offers to keep me in my specific situation.
(Sorry - awfully long winded).
Thanks.
