John,

Could please point to how you get the moment when channels change a status from hidden to production ?

From the SDT. Not necessarily the moment, but that a change has occured since the last sample.

Could you reveal what tag you looking for the changes ?
I never heard how FTA receiver could show SDT content.

I have been on the lookout for Santa Barbara locals for some time. It sounds like great news, how would I know when this happens?

You guys make it tough for a newbie however. What is "SDT"? What does "status from hidden to production" mean?

Thanks

Rainbird,
Such things are not intended for regular satellite subscribers.

Thanks for nothing!

Rainbird - when channels go to subscribers system - it's a good sign for someone like you.. it is a good indication that soon, hopefully very soon those locals will become available to subscribers..
And when they are - i am sure you ll hear it also - On Charlie Chats or somewhere on this board...

Noone truly knows when those locals will be precisely available to Subscribers but Technical department of Dishnetwork themselves..

And it is not really fare of you to say "Thanks for nothing!"
Cuz it wasn't nothing - John actually let everyone know that those are "one step closer" to be available to Subscribers...
He didn't really have to do it..
If it wasn't for people like John, to give you guys a "heads up" on the matter.. then instead of knowing that your locals are one step closer to reality, you d be kept completly in the Dark till the last moment...

So see my point - you can't really say "Thanks for nothing"
Now that i explained to you - that only Dish knows "when" - LOL - maybe it will put your mind at ease somewhat :)

and you being a newbie - TRUST ME - you do not really have to concern yourself with what SDT is... Do not even go there at this point ... cuz that not for the "average bear" :)
I ve been around somewhat - and even i do not really know what SDT is or stands for... But guess what - lol - I do NOT even want to know... hehe...
It has more likely to do with some BUDs (big ugly dishes,), etc etc..
John for example, and more likely P.Smith as well, are not everyday folk...
They are Satellite geniuses... hehehe - they speak different language from us normal humans entirely...
:D
I hope i helped somewhat))))

Darkman - Thank you for the information, I truly appreciate the effort and the explaination was excellent.

P. Smith - My only problem was the rudeness of your reply.

My bet is that the Santa Barbara locals will be the city scheduled for 11/6 that will be turned on. BTW, the NBC affiliate is NOT in the production side. Looks like there may be a retransmission consent issue with this channel at least as of today. Tomorrow afternoon will tell. I will be out shooting a concert for TV tomorrow night so I won't be able to update the dish channel chart until about this time tomorrow. But I bet that Santa Barbara will be added to subscribers sans NBC.

The other interesting thing is that if Dish does turn on the Fox affiliate to subscribers, I can officially BITCH very, very loudly about my local CA UPN channel not being carried. The Santa Barbara fox is KKFX CA 24 (Fox) San Luis Obispo. It's mostly a repeater of KTTV in LA, but it has some local content.

I WANT MY WBQC-CA UPN CINCINNATI!!!!!!!

BTW, there is no PBS station in the Santa Barbara market either!

See ya

I am looking for a white area for all networks. I can't seem to find one. Any one have any ideas where in SB/SLO counties might be a white area? I have tried San Simeon, California Valley, Shandon, New Cuyama, Lompoc, Buellton and a couple of others. All those areas are covered by at least one station.

Five Hole, with the number of repeaters out there, it's a tall order to fill! Good luck.

Thanks Tony. Grew up in the area but no longer live in the DMA. It looks like I have a sat signal for the area. It looks like I might have to compromise on the situation.
