Greetings ...
My in-laws are DirecTV subscribers but do not have a DVR. For Christmas, my wife and would like to give them the gift of Tivo and pay for the first year's DVR fee.
What's the most cost effective (read: cheapest) way to arrange this? Is the FFDVR rate still in effect?
Any and all advice is appreciated.

FFDVR code no longer works, out of stock on DirecTV.com.
New DirecTivo's are going for $99 or less pretty much everywhere so you can pick one up in Best Buy or something.

Would these typically include installation as well?

For new customers there are deals for installs. Since you are already a customer you just go buy it and plug it in. Installation is really easy unless you need to run new cables or something. Even then it's not that difficult.
But you might find some installation deals I guess.
Have them buy it. Then write them a check for the DVR and a year's worth of programming.
