I'm giving Dish the heave-ho and am interested to find if there is any comparison charts or info comaring the various DirecTivo receivers currently available. The HDVR2 seems to be rather available via various "good deals", but if some receivers have better features I might be inclined to spend a bit more for them.

Thanks!

The 3 series-2-like models available today (RCA, Hughes and Phillips) have the exact same hardware and features. What changes is just the casing, brand name and brand perks, like warranty and customer service.

Warranty-wise RCA is the best with 2 years, but it normally costs more. You should also be able to buy 2-yrs Hughes extended warranty for under $20 in most of the dealers.

I don't know if there are web sites that actually compare them (never saw any), but I doubt there would be any huge difference.

As an FYI...Are you planning on hooking your Tivo to a stereo system? If you are, the Philips and Hughes have DD problems (with the optical output only) to receivers made by Yamaha and Kenwood. I believe the RCA is ok with these brands.

No, nothing like that. I ended up choosing two HDVR2 boxes... thanks to all for the info posted.

Can you guys point me to some additional info on the problems with DD optical output on Hughes DirectTivo units and Kenwood DD receivers?

I have a Kenwood and am currently using an RCA directv receiver with dolby out. I am replacing it with a directivo unit and don't want to downgrade the audio. No suprises please.

I got a RadioShack Optical to coax conversion jammy. I have a Yamaha receiver that had issues.

Works perfectly now. It comes with an AC adapter.
