Where's the best place to get a DirecTv system?
(Direct, on-line, retail store)

Locals aren't available yet in my area, but will be. I am assuming
I will need the 3lnb model?

What are the best receivers or does it matter (most interested in the DVR models)?

Are the features any different between them?

As a new customer, what should I expect to pay for a two DVR
system?

I got my system through Expert Satellite, a on-line dealer. No, I do not have a referral link. You may want to get the 3 LNB model. As for DVRs, beyond storage capacity, there is no difference. If you are knowledable about computers, you can easily purchase 35 Hour units and upgrade them to 105 or 120 Hours.

You may also want to check your local circuit city. From time to time they run rebates that make your Directivo almost free. If you see a price there for a system with 2 Directivos + a 3-LNB dish for more than $140 don't buy, you get this plus a free dvd player at expertsatellite if you get a friend to split the referral with you (fairly easy to find).

I went with ValueElectronics. They got a lot of very good comments on another forum. There are a couple of other outlets with slightly better deals but I thought the positive comments were more valuable.

So far everything has gone great. Graham took the time to answer all of my questions (which were many), the equipment arrived the next day after it was ordered and the installer showed up at my place, did a site survey and gave me advice on where to place my mast in my yard. There was no extra charge for his trip.
So far I am very happy.
