just a very quick question.....

Have some shows recorded to the UTV harddrive. Since I no longer subscribe to UTV, I can not watch any of the recorded programs. Is there any way to copy those recorded shows to a VCR or computer so that they can be viewed?

Thanks for your time.

I would reactivate your UTV service and pay the $9.99 for a month. Then record the programs to your VCR. Then stop the service.

Do the following, in order: Activate service.
Confirm service is active.
Unplug from satellite.
Disconnect service. (I'm not sure if DirecTV prorates this or not. If you do it all within the same day, they may not charge you much if anything.)
Archive to whatever device you want - you probably will have 2-3 weeks to do this, but do it ASAP to be on the safe side.

thanks guys...so I guess the bottom line is you can only veiw or move recorded items from HD if you have UTV service activated.

I just figured that it was similar to a VCR. you record to a device you own, you should be able to view those recorded items any time. but i guess not...maybe a topic for another time...thanks again

I've had mine disconnected from the satellite dish for as long as 10 days with no problem viewing what was on the hdd. Perhaps because you deactivated service it won't work, but like a previous post said, just activate long enough to get it working and then disconnect it from the satellite dish and then deactivate the service on the website.

Brett, Karl - oops, missed the step of disconneting sat receiver prior to deactivation. ok, thanks.

one more question...anyway to move the recorded program to a computer to burn to VCD instead of going to video tape?

thanks

Try asking here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UltimateTV/

Such a program exists for the Dishplayer 7100/7200 (DishRip), maybe there is
something similar for Ultimate TV.

You could just play the recordings and use an analog video capture device on the PC. Not any different than saving to a VCR. You could also use a standalone DVD recorder to archive your shows.
