Should I go ahead and buy a 721 or wait? I really want a dual tuner PVR, but I'm hesitant because I keep hearing how the 721 has been discontinued , plus the $500 price. I thought about hooking up my existing 301 to a 5xx single tuner PVR, but that starts adding up also. With the fees and spending $300 for the PVR, I can't figure out what to do.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks.

I just bought a second 721 from DishDepot.com and bought the dish500 with dishpro twin included in the system .

I traded in my old directv receiver and got 25.00 for a trade in. You could call Mark at www.DishDepot.com (http://www.DishDepot.com) and ask him how much he would pay you in trade in value for your 301 and 508/501 or 510 dvr . If you live out of the state of Florida there is NO TAX on the new dvr. He was willing to give 100.00 trade in value on a 501/508/ series of dvr. He pays all the shipping and handeling charges both ways. I have done this on several different receivers and I have the latest dish receivers with the trade ins of my older ones. Mark is a great guy to work with on this.

One thing to remember, You need either a Dishpro twin lnb or a legacy series lnb with your Dish 500. This is necessary in order to download the initial software . I had a dishpro quad and I couldn't get the initial software download. I put the Dish 500 with dishpro twin lnb on the same pole as my original dishpro quad and hooked the cables up to the 721 and got the download. The 721 will not take this download on a dishpro quad. It has to be either legacy style dish or Dishpro twin lnb.

Mark still has some 721's left( last time I talked to him under 30 receivers left) and with the trade in allowance it could bring the price down and make the 721 more affordable. I love both of my 721s and with the latest software update (L116) it is more stable than ever with no more automatic reboots and recording problems.

Goodluck and let us know what you do . www.dishdepot.com (http://www.dishdepot.com)

Guys, I got my first PVR 721 unit on the 19th, I am now on my second replacement! I was however able to get the latest software update from a DishPro Quad unit. I can't wait to get it running, and the problems with the 721's seem to be low right now. I was going to wait for the 522, but who knows when we will get it, and I want single mode, not yet available!

The Dish techs said that this was a known problem with the dishpro quads not being able to download the initial software. They said it wasn't impossible but very unlikely that it would work . After the 4 th attempt on getting the initial software download , I gave up and put the twin up and got it within 20 minutes. The quad took an hour or more each time to try to download it .
