I was planing on getting a replaytv unit, but how does it hook up to record shows? Does the cable from the directv dish go to the receiver first then to the replay, then to the tv? Or does it go from the dish, to the replay, then to the receiver, and finally to the tv? Im confussed. Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks.

The replay gets its signal from the DirecTV receiver. Since you have DirecTV already, why are you considering the Replay instead of the DirecTV DVR? It has dual tuners and records the satellite stream directly giving you perfect recordings.

Because I currently have directv, but I dont know if I will be living here long. My folks are close to retireing to florida, and I will take over their house up here if they do. I already know that I cant receive a directv signal at their home due to the trees. At least if I have a replay unit I can use it down there with cable service.

So the correct way to hook up the unit is dish to receiver to replay to tv ..... right?

I'd seriously look at the visibility for DirecTV where you will be moving. If there is any southern exposure, I'm sure you can get a view. It not, there is always the chainsaw method.:)

Yes, the DirecTV receiver will provide the signal to the Replay. You should use the s-video/audio lines to do that. Then the Replay to the TV, also using s-Video. If you don;t have s-video use the composite lines.

I wish I could do the chainsaw method, but the trees are on somebody elses property. I have asked permission to cut the tops off some, but the owner said no, and I dont want a lawsuit.

The Replay hooks up as stated above either with composite or s-video. it has component out as 480p and has a Ir blaster to stick over the Ir spot for your reciever, so the replay can control the d* reciever. The replay guide is a 9 day guide I believe. (have mine hooked up to an E* 6000u receiver)

How well does the IR blaster work? Has it ever misfired?
I've been thinking about getting a replaytv (5504 model) for my old dish 3900 receiver (just got my dvr 510).

I've been thinking about getting a replaytv (5504 model) for my old dish 3900 receiver (just got my dvr 510). I just bought a couple 5504s-one controlling a 811 and the other a 1000(old!!!!) about two weeks ago, have only missed one program but not because my E* receivers-one of the ReplayTV units actually locked up.

I have a 5040 and have only missed a couple of programs but that was because the blaster fell off of my 6000.

May not be related but I need help!!!

I hope I get this across clearly because I am not an engineer and I am blonde on top of things.

I have just purchased / signed up for / leased the following:

Dish Network PVR / DVR 522
Replay TV PVR / DVR model 5504

Before I upgraded from a Dish 500 PVR / DVR (i think that's the number) to a 522 today my Replay TV box and dish 500 interfaced and worked fine together.

Basically I cannot fully use the Replay TV anymore because it cannot interface with the new Dish 522 box.

Now there is no code for the Replay TV to input for the new dish 522 and this is also according to Replay TV and Dish Network customer service / supervisor. They say the software has not caught up with the new Dish 522.

I can't be the only one with this issue (I hope) so any ideas are greatly appreciated – or does anyone have an idea when Replay TV might be releasing software to upgrade their remote control codes for the new Dish 522???

Thank you soooo much and happy new year to everyone!!!
