Anyone else having guide download problems on their 501/508/510?
Ever since the beginning of the year I am finding my guide is only good for an hour or two with some channels having info and others don't. And now for the first time EVER for me, I am gettingt he same whacky behavior in the guide window as I do on my 811: I get a "downloading guide data from satellite" or such in the viewing window. But the download never seems to finish.
I tried to scroll out to future days which usually forces a download but it didnt. It just showed no info available for 9 days.
This coincidentally began at the new year! I turned my unit off overnight but haven't checked it yet today to see if it straightened itself out.

If you never turn your 5xx receiver off, you won't get your updated guide data, and eventually you'll end up in the situation that you describe. The guide data only downloads when the receiver is in standby.
I had the problem a few times. If the above fix by Mark doesn't work, try a reboot by turning off the PVR-50x, then press and hold the Power button for about 5 to 7 seconds then let go. The receiver should come on and do a full download of the guide and everything should be fine. This does not erase anything in your Recorded Events. Be sure to turn off your receiver once or twice a week to get the latest guide downloads and any firmware updates.

Check the strength of transponders 22-29, especially transponder 29 (which carries the 9 day guide), and compare then with the strengths of transponder 10-18 on the 110 bird. If you get low signals on 29, but good signals on 16, then your Dish has tilted down somewhat and is unable to retrieve the guide from Echostar 6.

Thanks Mark, I was only getting 2 days worth of guides on my 501, checked strength on 110-29, nothing, so I exited out of setup, & got the finding transponder 29 screen. After it found it, I rebooted & it downloaded all 9 days worth of guides.

Check your software version you should have 1.99 or 2.20 in either version the receiver should shut itself off after a period of inactivity and download the program guide daily. The fact you just got the programming guide should have also downloaded the latest software so you should have a floating DISH logo when you try to watch programming the first time each day.
