Hello all...
I found this site the other day and have been learning lots reading through the threads. I decided to join up and log in.

Now my question. I've had Dish since 97 (or 96, don't remember) still using the original 4000 box I had to pay for at that time. Soon after added a 1000 that still works and added a 300 three years ago. Here's my question: The 4000 box still works but the UHF remote is starting to have some issues. The 1000 still works great. The 300 however has started to reset itself occasionally. By that I mean it will only recognize one satellite from time to time. If I change the transponder to 11 and then everything works fine. I'm thinking I need to replace this box because it got wet this summer. (We were part of a big fire that destroyed 6 homes. Ours was heavily damaged and the 300 was in the room that got 3 tankers of water dumped on it.) Sorry, I'm rambling.... I'll get to the point. What would you suggest I switch to? 508, 510, 722? Not ready to step up to paying for a HDTV yet so I'll wait on the 811 or 921. I love the idea of a DVR so I'm thinking of replacing the 4000 and the 300.

Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well there's nothing like a PVR, and then again there's nothing like a dual tuner PVR. Go for the 721 or wait until the 522 is available to 'normal' subs.

Well, I called Dish and asked about the 522. She of course said that they weren't for sale to current customers. I asked her how they were being sold on ebay. She didn't have an answer for that. She is sending me a 510 upgrade free for the 2 yr commitment.

On the 522, I asked when it would be available to current customers since the 721 isn't offered anymore. She said that it probably will be in the future they just need to think up a fair trade up program. I also made sure to ask if I received a 510 now, would that nullify me getting a 522 upgrade for trading in a different receiver later, she said no.

Looking forward to my 510 DVR!
