Run a cable direct, bypassing the switch. They used to include a simple connector to do this without moving the cables much.
However your 7100 would have to been never in service to not have a current enough version to recognize the sw64.

try connecting just 119 to PORT ONE. and then run switch test/
119 must be on port one 110 on port two and port 3 whateber side slot you might be using.

thanks but still doesn't work.
I think my problem is the cable between the inserter and switch. both the switch and inserter are indoors, close to each other, does the cable need to be a certain length? as well please tell me how to get the most up to date download.
thank you

Try connecting the power inserter DIRECTLY into port one. then try any other port for your sat.
Confirm you have the sat cable connected to the receivers sat connection/ its easy to reverse them, I have done that.
I don't understand? I ALWAYS connect it to port one. I didn't know that you could connect it any other way? Do you know how long the cable between insert and the switch has to be? Do you know if I have the latest download?
thank you in advance

Up to 100 feet. Although closer is better. The power inserter MUST go to port one. And of course its critical to be set up the right way. Power to the switch not to your receiver.
From the LNBF to the switch they must be paired correctly. Both 119 to the same set (1a 1b suggested), 110 (2a 2b suggested) and side dish, e.g 61.5, (3a 3b). Its not suppose to matter which lnb is to which switch (but in pairs). Do not connect say a 119 to 1a and 110 to 1b.
If you have any question of you dishplayer working first bypass the switch and connect directly to the 119 switch. If you do this make sure to give your displayer a chance to download any update.
No chance you have Pro LNB's that you are trying to connect through the sw64 is there?

Or ever shorted the cable to the power inserter? That can kill the thing.

Actually its not clear that you had you dish working first before adding the Switch.
Its critical that before adding the switch you first hook up a direct line to your DISHplayer. Align the dish, and get a signal, then wait for the Dishplayer to download the latest software, if any.
Only then try to add the sw64.
There are lots of weird things that are best settled by going without a switch. E.G. when using cascading switches some 6000u's were shipped with the new adapter installed, but without the code that recognizes it or the cascading switches. So you had to remove the adapter and bypass the switch, download the latest code, then insert the adapter connect the switch and do a switch check.

What do you mean "or ever shorted the cable to the power inserter?"
if the cable is too short this could be a problem?
the instructions do not mention anything about cable length?
Please explain as detailed as possible.
