Does anybody know why the location ID in the 921's sys info keeps changing? My dealer said temp reading is in this menu. Is this somehow related? Thanks.

Your receiver is acting normally. Dish uses this field to verify that multiple receivers on one account are actually at the same location. It's just a bunch of random numbers that don't mean a thing.

Actually, the Location ID number have well known meaning [ unfortunatelly for scooper ].
It was a thread here.

Short answer - it's receiver's serial number and date/hour.

Care to explain why all your receiver's get set to the same when DIsh is verifying that all your receivers are in one house ?

Also - would you happen to have that thread ?

Yes, I could explain it - there are clones ! [What's ILLEGAL, btw].

So, any idea on how close the receivers have to be to each other? If I had a come about 60 miles away but in the same local channels market, could I have 1 receiver in each location on a single account?

Technically yes. You'd be fine until E* CSR asked you for the Location ID on both receivers. Also unless both places were your immediate household members, you would also be guilty of "stacking" your account - definately against the Terms of service. Vacation or second homes that are your households exclusive use would be OK.
