721 spin down?

I was wondering if the 721 hard drive is supposed to spin down when you turn it off. the unit i have seems to stay on 24/7. I e-mailed Dish tech support and they said it takes longer to spin down because its a bigger hard drive. so according to them it does. but my unit doesnt.

My unit does not as well. Infact the stand by mode does not kick in anymore and I have that feature turned on.

Didn't they put in some inactivity spin-down feature in one of the recent software upgrades?

Yes but I have noticed it doesn't do like the 508 with the inactivity mode. The only thing I have noticed is when I get up at 400am to go to work the receiver is hard to turn on . Sometimes is says it is starting the receiver and sometimes a timer screen pops up with a clock. I have that feature with the timer icon turned off so it is really strange when it pops up. I don't think that the inactivity mode even works at all. I still hear the hard drive running wether it is on or off.

Is this because its larger, or because all of the extra MBs take a while to spin down.

Honestly that doesn't make any sense at all, not one bit.
