When can we expect to be able to update our dish system, to the new super dish. This is needed to pick up local programs. I live in Chatt,Tn area, and I was told it would be April before I would be able to purchase. Why so long, is this another Dish Network blunder??Like I purchased a 600HDTV Receiver so I could receive HDTV programs, and wasnt month later I was told I would have to update that with a module costing $99.00.What gives with this company. I also purchased the 500 receiver and had nothing but problems with it, from the beginning, had to finally updated it. What is going on with this company planning and quality control?? IF one more thing occurs ,Iam switching to Direct TV period. Paul

I'm in same situation. I understand that they are doing new customers first on Superdish and putting us off a few months. Screwing us who pay bill every month. As soon as Direct gets my local, bye Charlie.

Indeed. I called two hours after my locals went "available" on December 17th. The soonest they could schedule me was February 17th... The new installs simply got precedence -- plus the SuperDishes are not in huge supply...

My father was scheduled for Feb 14th, being considered a 'previous' customer, and not new. (So much for the theory that someone going from paying $0 a month to $50 a month is worth more than current subs, but that's another story.) He received a call over the weekend from DSN or DNS, whatever, that he was moved up to this Wednesday, 01/07. I called the installer back and he said that there is such a huge demand and wait time, they are moving people to this area temporarily to help relieve the situation. I believe he said he was coming from Indianapolis and there were quite a few others coming also. So maybe, we'll start seeing these waiting lists start to dwindle.

Good luck to all, I know how anxious I was to get installed.

One warning, the Superdish is one big S.O.B.! Watch where they install it, and make sure you are home before the arrive! :( I wouldn't give it up for anything, but I sure wish I had been home before they started the install. I would have paid extra to install it on the back of the house.

See here if you want a picture of Dish500 / SuperDish comparison

Heh. I'm going to end up with two of those big dishes. I already have one just like it for my DirecPC/DirecWay stuff on my roof that I installed myself. Now I'll have another one on the back of my house when the SuperDish arrives.

Luckily, for me, the back of the house points in the proper direction...

Maybe someone here can answer a couple of question...

Can the SD be roof mounted. My existing D500 is mounted in a wonderful spot on the backside of my roof directly to the roof. There is a chimney next to it that blocks the majority of the wind/rain/snow. I'd like to mount the SD in the same location, but have heard several people mention that roof mounts may be a no-no. I have no problem reinforcing the area under the roof to deal wth the extra weight and force due to it's size if necessary.

This location is about as good as it can get due to trees in the way. My locals (tenatively) are suppose to be at 121, so I'd assume that the view of the sky will be essentially the same direction as my current D500. Is that correct? Cutting down trees isn't an option.

Finally, I probably should get a grounding wire for my dish. The stupid installer never ran one. Damn self-install. :) Should I just wait for E* to run one with the SD, or should I. If the answer is I, what is the best method to get from the middle of the north side of a 2nd story roof to the SE corner grounding rod? Just tack it along the shingles and AL siding?

As for the roof mount, I also heard that some installers aren't wanting to do them. But, I know it can be done. This picture (http://www.owensboroblackbelt.com/images/superdish1.jpg) (from the other thread mentioned above) clearly shows a roof-mounted SuperDish.

Plus, as I said, I have the same size dish mounted for DirecPC on my rooftop chimney. I did it myself -- and it sits right in the wind. On a hugely windy day, my signal dropped from 86 to 70 -- but that's the worst I've ever seen. So, it is quite sturdy. Then again, it's bolted into cement and brick -- not just into wood...
