I must admit to being a bit interested in this service, once I get my HDTV in March.

They are missing some important SD channels that they plan to add by March 2004 they said. At that point I will definitely jump on board.

Let me know if you like it. I gotta say, if they have my locals on HD, among a bunch of others, I'd consider switching to AT50 without locals and adding on VOOM.

The idea of a good HDTV antenna included vs. local HDs was one of the things I liked about it because from here I would rather get LA channels than SD channels, and with the antenna I can do that. There is no SD UPN for HD Star Trek for example, and no Laker games :P
They said their HD Tivo type device won't be ready until Dec 2004 :(

I have had VOOM for about a month now.
HD is stunning, there are a lot of repeats on the '21 exclusive' channels, but most movies are worth watching. The SD content is lacking, but that is not why youwould switch from your current provider. Many people are holding out for more SD content.
The talk I have heard for the Tivo like PVR is spring 2004 not winter. There is also talk of free/discounted upgrades for early adopters, but don't hold your breath.
I live in a fringe area in terms of OTA reception, so local off air is not really an option for me (I am looking at fringe antenna's though
All and all I am pretty satisified. If you jump on ow, remember that you are pretty much a beta tester until full roll out in March, and because of that you are getting everything they carry for free. Voom is offering a money back offer until the end of Feb (or maybe March now) for anyone who signs up eary.
There is a lot of talk about voom on satelliteguys.us/forum/ndex.php and groups.yahoo.com/group/voom.
Hope this helps

Yes, it helps, thanks. Very interesting. I don't have my HDTV yet, but when I do, I'll be checking to see what VOOM does and might consider adding them or even switching to them.

There is a pretty bad anti-Voom bias on this board, in sharp contrast to great Echostar coverage. Check out satelliteguuys.us (sure folks wouldn't mind as Scott sends folks to Mark & vice versa) for better Voom coverage or the YahooGroups Voom group.

I joined the Yahoo groups VOOM board, and if you think it's negative HERE... ;-)

I would say the difference is the Yahoo groups if people who have it whining. Here it's people that don't have Voom primarily being negative based on no first hand experience. satelliteguys.com is a little more balanced & Sean is a great moderator.
The Yahoo Voom group is getting pretty bad for the future business viability of VOOM. A lot of people are talking about returning he system.

I don't see it so horribly negative as some do. This board seems more negative than other places. I am using it and if they do come through with the following additions:
201 HBO HD East
· 202 HBO HD West
· 221 Cinemax HD East
· 222 Cinemax HD West
· 281 InHD
· 282 InHD 2
· 301 ESPN HD
· 321 NBA-TV HD
· 501 Bravo HD
· 701 Adult PPV HD
in Feb. (beginning or end), then I may just use cable for locals only (in HD!!) (I can't get HD OTA), and VOOM for everything else.
It is stunning to have so much HD!

I'm going to get VOOM probably after they finish the upgrade to MPEG-4. Can anyone reply as to how their SD programming looks? It has to be better than Dish.

I have it and the SD is great. I've been pretty impressed thusfar and I also can't wait for the MPEG4 to come out. Do you think they'll up to more HD channels??

I just received back an email response from Voom regarding more HD and like everyone else, they are in negotiations and will post it to their website when finalized.
