View Full Version : Who is Charlie Chat for?

Charlie should really drop the chats. Certainly he has better things to do with his time.
The hardcore people, like those found here, watch it for an "official" announcement. These same people also know "most" of what's going to be said before the chat ever airs. A simple press release is all that's needed to make it official.
Normal people, like my wife, parents, and average Joe, wouldn't dream of wasting an hour of their time listening to this boring info -- especially with the "guests" and other rediculous antics (E* poker).
Who really watches these things?
Who does E* thinks watches these things?
How many people do you think actually watches the chats?
My guess is that very few people watch the chats. Maybe 1000, at best.
my wife hates it. it's good for the new customers but alot of people don't spend half of the day here like alot of us do ;)
Granted, a lot of the chat is wasted air time (at best), but I look forward to the chats so I can receive info straight from the horses mouth. Judging from the flurry of postings on these forums each and every month regarding the Charlie Chat, I am not alone. I believe many of the visitors to these forums consider themselves enthusiests (otherwise, why be here) and anxiously await any little tidbit of news. We just wish we would get more action and less news! :bang

Wife hates the chats, always goes in the other room or goes to bed early. I have decided that I will watch just for the "entertainment" value. Also gets the wife out of the room and I can then change the channel and PVR the show for later. I can then turn back to the show if she comes in the room. I know, I am warped.
I liked the Charlie Chat better in the "early days", when the call screeners weren't quite so aggressive. It would be great if Charlie and his gang would take questions on some of the tough issues, e.g., monthly DVR fees and extra receiver charges, schedule for adding new HDTV channels, DVR bugs, etc. Since so few people actually watch the chats, I don't see why Charlie feels the need to turn them into another marketing vehicle. Why not use it as a chance to roll up his sleeves and engage in a useful dialog with his most enthusiastic customers?

You mean I can't call in and ask why my 501 doesn't have a VOD fee, but the 921 or others do, when there's really no difference in the service? HEE
I accept that Dish is business to make money. I support capitalism and think that whatever E* can do to make $$$ and keep their customers, they should.
As a customer, my "job" is to weigh the value of E*'s service against its competition and choose whose service I want. The moment Dish isn't working for me, I'll switch to another service. I'm happy with my service for now...but Charlie knows he has to continue making me happy while walking the line of making himself money. As soon as he steps over the line--he'll know it. He'll lose more customers than he can afford.

I like that the CEO of my satellite provider will take an hour of his time every month and just talk to his subscribers like they are family or something. It gives a face to E* and makes people feel welcome. Charlie is a big reason why so many E* subs are so loyal to E*.

It would be different if he would treat us like family, and not the illegitimate black sheep of the family. He can apologize to his shareholders for problems but not to US ... the people who keep him in business. Straight answers would be nice.

I like the chat's because it is like being at a pep tallk of a coach of a football team. We hear what the coming season will bring us in terms of technology and programming. It is nice that we can call in or email to charlie, even though very few people do it. I look foreward to the chats, especially the technical chats. Life's a bitch so is dish network, but nothing is perfect . Everyone like to kick dish network, but i am really happy. I am inidan and dish is the only provider of international programming. My dad is homesick just had open heart surgery and spends countless hours watching indian programming on dish, which has 5 indian channels. No other provider even cares about international viewers. Dish has arabic, Philipino, Polish etc programming. Thank you dish Network. When i see my dad smile in front of the set and think he is back home in India, i can put up with any delay of the 921
