I guess we all knew this was coming. So long all you Dish 5000 HDTV customers. 8PSK only from now on. But hey, the 6000 and the 811 where/are available for $150 for all you good customers.

And you are sure to be able to get an 811 before January 11th. :) 2005

The plan is to eventually drop 61.5 and 148 totally.

I'm not really interested in the 811/6000, but I'll take the original cost of the 5000+mod against the 921.

You mean all HD or all channels completely?

If you mean all channels completely you really have been hitting the crack tonight. :smoking:

Oh I mean completely. Not anytime soon, and not anytime this year. 61.5 and 148 will be dropped at some point though.

I see 61.5 being sold off to Voom
But 148 and 157 are only 9 degrees apart, making a Dish500 Dish work great for those two slots. So while the current content of 148 might change, I don't think that slot will be abandoned by Dish.

Besides, Slots in the sky are very valuable, unless of course the FCC gives up on 9 degree spacing and goes to 5 degree.

This will likely be a deal breaker for me. In order for me to see 110 I need to purchase second dish (6 footer @ 500 bucks) My local co is rolling out hd now I will probably go with them.

I only see that as possible if E* gets the half slots. Not only are the 11 licensed and 6 borrowed transponders handy for special content, and cover most of CONUS. But keeping them out of the hands of a serious HD competitor is probably more valuable than anything else they can do at that slot.

148 and 157 have a future. E* would be stupid to give these up. Then again, some people believe E* is stupid with some of their actions.

I have a 5000/w HDmod and am irate with dish network. Considering I bought this unit in April 2000 it has worked flawlessly with my HDTV providing me with HBOHD and SHOHD for many years. Now I get the message "moving on Feb 11" for both and I know they will never enable the model 5000 to get these on 110. Considering that I spent $700+ back then when Dish promised "All future HDTV will be accessible with this unit." I should either be re-imbursed or there should be an even trade (model 5000/HDMod for 6000/8psk or 811) because the fact is Dish is taking away something that was promised from the beginning otherwise the 5000 is just an SD receiver.

Anyway, I argued with an advanced tech CSR that insisted that the model 5000 was not HD capable and I was eventually cut off by "coincidence". I called back and eventually was told that there was a trade in offer a couple of years ago that I never heard about that was still not an even trade.

This is ridiculous, for the few people who actually have this unit do you think it really would hurt economically Dish to replace them? I hope anyone out there who reads this post and who has a model 5000 w/ HD Modulator will call dish and complain otherwise what is keeping them from in the future doing this to the 6000, 811, or even 921 when newer transmission technology comes? Unless watching the HDTV Demo channel all day is satisfactory or going through waiver hell for CBSHD is worth it just to have the model 5000.

Oh, and Cyclone I also own a 6000, I will still be a dish network customer at least for now  .

Well 5000 users have a choice... Get the 811 upgrade for HDTV and use the 5000 for either standard definition or turn it off/sell on ebay.

I paid over $700 each for my 6000s with OTA modules and 8PSK. Now I get the 811 for $149 that does everything the 6000 does and more... I do not feel ripped off paying what I did for the 6000s.

I have computers 4 years old that cannot run a lot of new software.

I do expect one day that the 911/811/6000 and every other reciever dish has ever made will be out dated. Look at the number that cannot do SuperDish. If Dish starts to do Ka broadcasts or adds other satellites, more recievers will go by the wayside.

Technology marches on...

811 is inferior to the 5000 because you cannot record HD with it. 5000 owners shoul be allowed some type of 921 deal. Right now most people cannot even get a 921 at all.

You cannot record with a 5000, you can only record with a D-VHS. Perhaps you 5000 owners should ask the D-VHS manufacturers to make a D-VHS that can record component/rgb/dvi inputs.

Nobody seams to make a STB with HD RF outputs anymore, wonder why?

Hey, at least they PAY you to live there. They make us pay taxes down here in the lower 50.* Can't you get your hands on ExpressVU?

*I heard that with the oil money you guys get a check from the feds every year instead of a tax bill. Don't know if I have bad info or what. Alaska doesn't come up too often in conversation here in Joisey.

Anchorage AK?
"I didn't know Arkansas had a town named Anchorage"

"We only ship to the continental U.S."
"Alaska is on the North American continent."
"You know what I mean."
"Oh, you mean that you only ship to the contiguous states?"

Go ahead, laugh it up, we are used to it.

Lower 50? How many states are there?

Actually the check comes from the state, not the feds. It varies from year to year, with a low of about $1100 up to $1900. It is paid from the oil revenues from the North Slope. Shows up in Oct. Nice to get something back for spending time working up and down the pipeline. (Which I did for 4 years) Somebody has to produce the oil so those guys in California can drive their cars! :D

Well, get to pumpin' that oil!! It cost me over $50 to fill up my Expedition earlier this week (and notice I live in California)!!

In all seriousness though, I would LOVE to visit Alaska sometime...I have little doubt it is a wonderful place to live! I bet it beats the _ _ _ _ out of Sacramento anyway!

That little dig was just for you! "Where the hell is Alaska" indeed.

My father in law used to live in Sacramento. It was too hot for me. Come on up, June and first half of July have the best weather. Aug and Sept tend to be more rainy.

Sorry about going off topic.
