Hi folks,

I'm new here, loving all the resources and great info.

I am switching from Dish to Directv, mainly to get the Tivo unit at a good price, but I was reading in thread http://www.dbstalk.com//showthread.php?t=21979 that the Hughes HDVR2 may have problems in connecting DD via the toslink cable. Can anyone who has experienced such problems please comment further? Also, has anyone had success with DD on the new Hughes SDDVR40?

cheers,

nick.

It's a Harmon Kardon AVR55 with both Optical and coaxial DD in (obviously I will be using the optical here)

I would think you would be ok. You may want to contact Philips and see what they have to say.

I have an HDVR2 and am having no problems with DD via TosLink. From what I understand, the SDDVR40 is basically the same as the HDVR2.

Can you be more specific? What problems are you having, what receiver is it hooked up to, etc.? And yes, I would agree that the SDDVR-40 is simply a rename, to allow for the big brother SDDVR-120 with the120mb hard drive.

Thanks, I will - I assume this means that Philips make the hardware for hughes then?

No but their name is on it hence they support it. When I first noticed these audio dropouts, I looked Online and found others were having it as well. I then called Philips tech support but they merely acknowledged there was a problem and offered no resolution or restitution ($$).

Anyway, bottom line is I think you'll be ok with the optical connection. BTW, that's a nice receiver too. Good luck.

Well I just got another DirecTivo (Hughes SD-DVR40) and had it installed a few days ago and I did have audio dropouts but once the unit downloaded the latest Tivo software it was no longer a problem. The only so called problem I can see right now and whenever they fix it is another question is with the message that says guide data may take 1-2 days to complete under the to do list for example just never goes away even though my guide is as full as can be. It also says my guide is up to today and no further but DirecTV tells me this problem is just the message but the box still works fine and the guide data is still filling in and will be done but they can't get this message to go away.

You might have misread.. I'm NOT having problems with my HDVR2 and TosLink DD. :)

BTW, it's hooked up to a Yamaha receiver.
