I have been waiting forever for the 921 and when they offered the 6000 for $149 I saw it as a good stopgap receiver to get HD while I wait for the 921 to shake out. My CRT front projector has a variety of inputs but no DVI. I watch all HD at 1080i. I have the 6000 connected from its RGB port to the pj's separate R, G, B, H, V connectors and when the source material is good, native HD the picture is stunning. When the 811 became available, also for $149, I ordered it to replace the 6000. I only had my install date changed once and now I have the unit.

I hooked up the 811 with the component cables provided and played with the input settings on the pj so it recognized the component input to the RGB connectors and while the picture looks quite good, it is not as good as the 6000/RGB picture. I find text is not as crisp and there are some color distortions in the picture. This is most clearly visible when you bring up the Dish menu. With component input from the 811, the white ovals of the menu items create slightly darker, consistent bands across the entire screen for every oval, even if there is only an oval in one column. With the 6000/RGB out, it is perfect. Using the 6000's component outs, it also has the banding.

At first I thought it might be inferior cables, so I picked up a $100 Monster 2-meter component set and tried that, no difference. Now, I am pretty savvy about things technical, but I admit I am in the dark about this: there are 5 bnc connectors on the back which are used for RGBHV or just the R, G and B are used for component input. The manual states for these connectors: RGB video band: 75Mhz, -3dB, Y Cr Cb band: 40Mhz, -3dB. Is this some limitation of my projector causing the banding when sync signals are combined with green since both receivers exhibit the same problem on component out?

I guess I will have to keep the 6000 and sell the 811 for now. I know the 921 does have capability of outputting RGB analog so that should eventually solve my problem.

Thanks in advance for your input.

you bring up an interesting situation....my Runco 933 accepts RGB breakout only....and it gets fed with all rgb analog inputs (15 pin)....i have 2 model 6000 and the DTC 100 plus 3 computer inputs all feeding through an rgb switcher, the proj auto syncs to each source....The image is stunning....Now, along comes Voom and newer receivers without rgb 15 pin connectors....Ihave tried audio authority's component to rgb switcher...but my image is weaker, and considerally less sharp and hi-deffy looking...So, what is the solution here...do i need a better rgb transcoder????.....any help would be appreciated
