View Full Version : 811 - Onyko audio drop out
I have read many post on this problem, I have it and it is getting worse.
Some say it is the 811 some say there is a compatibility prob with the Onyko.
I will say that my Onyko 501 functions flawlessly with everything except the 811.
Has Dish come down with any definitive word as to what is the actual problem?
I never had this problem before the last software update ver 263.
I am sure I would have noticed it had it been present.
I am getting tired of it, other than that I have no issues with the 811.

Its not unique to Onkyo. My JVC can't get the dolbly digital stream from the 811 but works fine for "PCM only" or my Pioneer DVD player.
An email to tech support got this generic response:
"Thank you for your e-mail and your question on the HD 811 receiver. We are aware of the audio and video problems and our Engineering Department is diligently working on a solution. We appreciate your patience in this matter. "

Well after living with this for the past couple of weeks I rolled my T.V. out and swapped out the optical cable from my DVD player (monster) with the optical cable (RCA) from the Sat box. Guess what. Now that I have the Monster cable in place my problems are ALL GONE.. My digital sound from my 811 to my Onkyo 501 now works perfectly!!!
Obviously the RCA brand cable was bad. (one of those RCA HI-Performance Digital cables) I guess it wasn't so hi performance after all.

My audio works great with my Yamaha receiver. You need to check your audio receiver and change the audio setting to match the choice that you made on the 811. I set the yamaha to auto detect and get great dd5.1 or what ever audio the station is outputting.

See this thread (http://www.dbstalk.com//showthread.php?t=22189) for my post related to this. I had audio drop-out problems also with my 811 and an NXG Pro optical cable. I swapped in a seemingly identical NXG Pro cable of the same length -- and the problem went away. Then I put that "bad" cable on my DVD player -- and have NEVER had an audio drop from it since.
In other words, it appears that the problem is still linked to the 811 in some way. Maybe the output from the 811 is "borderline" in quality? Is there some certain "brightness" or "power" that optical outputs are supposed to have that maybe the 811 isn't up to?
