can you use the 811 for HD and 508 for recording SD? the 921 would be great but for $1000 i don't htink it is worth it now. also i guess we need to go back to an outside antenna for local HD!! what a pain.

Absolutely, you can do this. I have a 6000u and a 508 on the same TV.

Are you paying the 5.00 extra receiver fee?

thanks for the advice it is possible. how do you do it? does it require two cables coming down from the roof from the dish (1 to 508 and 1 to 811)? then i assume hook the 811 to hd jacks (mine are bnc rgbhv but i assume convert to rca type plugs) and hook up 508 to s-video as i have it now. do i need a switch to change between hd and sd and antenna for hd? thanks for your help jack in albuquerque

Seperate cables to each receiver or you can try this:

I use this splitter off a single input cable and into each receiver and it works just fine.

Then, yes, connect your 811 to your TV via component and your 508 to your TV via S-Video, then simply change your TV's input selector to select the receiver you wish to view.

As far as the outdoor antenna, yes you will need it to view your local OTA HD programming through your 811.

...hope this advice helps.

So the 811 has to be hooked up to a satellite to receive the ota channels,or can it do this on it's own, without the 5.00 extra receiver fee?
