From this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?threadid=349309) over at AVS:
Not sure if this is general knowledge or not, but DIRECTV says the MSRP price of the Hughes Tivo DVR will be $999. I thought I had seen the price of $800 used before. They say the first units will start to become available in March and supply will increase after that.
Won't really matter about the price. I'm still getting one. :)

So much for the huge D* HD-PVR price savings. Maybe these things ARE expensive to build after all.....
Hey, if it works (and I'm using the normal definition, not what Dish uses for a definition ;) ) I might consider installing D* again. The price really doesn't push me away since I've spend that much on VCR's that had a wired remote for the pause button and could tune in only 12 channels.
Then I wanna get 169time to modify it for firewire output to D-VHS.
The HD TIVO is one of the two reason on why I switched, Most of the programming that I will want to watch in HD is going to be OTA. The other reason is that I think Direct will pick up HD Regional sports packages like FOX North. I don't think Dish will ever broadcast these.
I'm willing to buy, have money set aside, just hoping I don't have to use it to pay taxes.
I've really got my fingers crossed for a new subscriber deal with these. I'd think it would be an awesome tool that DirecTV could use to lure in new subscribers.
