View Full Version : 4900 IR Mode?

I've trolled the net looking for an explanation as to why my Echostar 4700 (System Info says "4900 Upgraded") doesn't accept infrared (IR) signals. Everything I've seen indicates that if its "Remote Address" is set to 1 (it is), then IR is supposed to be automagically enabled. I'm totally stumped as to why I can't seem to get a Harmony (IR) remote to control this. And yes, the Harmony IR remote works fine with all the other components, so I'm disinclined to think I've programmed it wrong.

Any insights are greatly appreciated...

As embarrassing as it is to admit, the Harmony remote was programmed wrong. For whatever reason, their code library for the Echostar 4700/4900 just didn't work with my receiver (even though it says 4700 on the back. Go figure). I was able to learn the commands from the old remote, which surprised me--I thought it only spoke UHF to the receiver.

Mea culpa.

Mwarner1 the guess is that you weren't using address 1 for the 4700/4900 so the preprogrammed codes wouldn't work. We'll say you were using address code 3 when you taught the Harmony remote you taught it address 3 codes so it worked correctly. Go to menu 6-1-3 and it will display the system information screen at the bottom is the remote address for your system.

I had previously checked the "remote address" mode (menu->6->1->3) and it was already set to "1". Other posts I've seen indicate some receivers refuse to recognize infrared commands on other settings (2-15), though I haven't tested this out.
