Hi all:
I have waited, now is the time.
Interested in the HD system for the monetarily challenged.
Have HD projection TV (needs hd tuner), really good
surround system, progressive scan DVD.
An 811 system for the cost of 1 year of junk I don't want.
All I really want out the satellite system are the HD
channels, HD movies.
Would like to record (in HD) one program while watching
another in HD. Wife and I have different taste in same
time slots.
We are rural, Have largest exterior antenna could find
with booster, Receive New Orleans stations approx 70
fine
Remembering that I am MONETARILY CHALLENGED
what is the best way to accomplish my objectives.
Thanks in advance for all the assistance and info

The 6000 and the 811 can't record.
The 921 is $999, but it can record to hard disk.
I'd say to defer your requirement for recording HD contect for awhile. The products are just too new and priced to reflect it.
I'd say to stay away from Dish and their 811, the 811 has too many bugs at this time making it unstable. I'd say to go with D*, get a HD (non-PVR) STB and a DirecTivo and use that to timeshift and wait for HD PVR's to come down in price.
I assume that you have already checked with your cable company (assuming you have one) and that they aren't going to do HD in the near term. If you can get HD via cable you might want to go that route since a number of cable companies are starting to roll out HD digital recorders for about $10 per month.

It is time I got something other than ota. I heard that 86% households have HBO. I have never had anything other than ota. The satellite is the only option in my area other than DVD rental witch can get expensive. One day I will get direct-way because Daile up at 33 sucks but that is another story.

I defer to the D* folks out there to answer your question. All I know is as a former E* customer that had an 811, I'd stay away from them for awhile.
My 811 is fine, as are most IMO. The odds and the gods are in your favor.

JBT was referring to his dialup speed - averaging 33kbs

Nick, aren't you the one that said you use your 811 for only watching your HD channels and your trusty Dishplayer for SD and to look up EPG info since the 811's guide is so limited? That's great for people that want to switch around to different receivers and have one that works to fall back on. Have your tried using your 811 as your one and only receiver, day in and day out, and not run into any problems????

33 kpbs is top speed connection. For a long while it was 19 phone co said that is all they were obligated to supply. I went around system and begged a lineman to help and that is where I stand.

You can integrate all 3 DIRECTV satellites on the DIRECWAY dish, so you only need one dish for High-Speed Internet and HDTV.
The best HD satellite STB is the LG LSS-3200A. This box is OEM'ed to Sony (HD300) and Hughes (HTL-HD). All SD DIRECTV-TiVo DVR's are the same.
