I wonder if this has happened to anyone here before. My father has a dishpvr...not sure which one, possibly 501/508. We had a power outage last night and today it doesnt work. The only thing he can do is access the menu. Most selections on the menu result in "error:data could not be found". The signal is fine and it has power, but in live mode it only shows the time and date. Did the disk fry from the power outage? It is plugged into a surge protector. Has this happened to anyone? Thx.

I guess you have tried a reset? (pull the smart card and reinsert?)

Do you have the extended warranty?

It is possible to get damage even with a surge suspressor, depends on the type of protection(some don't do much) and the type of outage.

Fisrt try reset, with DVR its a good idea to have the $1.99 month warranty,
Needs to be active for 30 days before a report.

Try a hard reset by pressing and holding the on/off button (the button on the unit, not the remote) for about 7 seconds until the lights on the front of the unit begin to flash. The unit will then go through a self-reboot process.

You may also want to try a Check Switch test. This is in the installation section of the menu....good luck
