Id like to get one but $99 seems a bit much for me does directv offer discounts to subs ??? :D :D :D
$99 for a DISH DVR really is high for what you get it is barely the equivalent of a VCR. DirecTiVo's are $99 for existing customers and about $70 for new customers and work pretty reliably.

$99 for a DirecTivo is a great deal. Three years ago, when DVR's first were available for Directv, Ultimatetv and Directivo units were $399. Save your pennies and get one. You'll never regret it.

Well this 99 special is until the end of feb.now if you are not satisfied with the product within 30 days you can call dtv and they will give you your money back and one free standard box this is for all new and existing cust. hmm sounds like a good deal to me.

I wonder how many subs are not satisfied and return the Tivo. Once you try it, you're hooked. In fact, once you get one, you'll probably need to get another. :D
Don't forget, 2 tuners on one receiver for that $99. It's quite a bargain, IMO.

Dell has a $49 after rebate promo until 2/28/04 for new Directv subscribers:

And Directv is now advertising a promo for Dell computers. A coincidence? I think not

Also, once these 40 GB models run out then the $99 deal will be over. They are getting rid of these "older" 40 GB models in favor of the bigger 80 and 120 gb ones. Of course with agressive as News plans to be, you'll probably see the 80 gb ones going for $99 by next Christmas. :D
Don't forget with DTivo you can make your 40Gb $99 model into the 120Gb for about $60, the price of a hard drive. No live TV for me there's always something "Now Playing" :)

Where can you get a 120gig drive for 60 bucks?

FWIW, you can piggy back an 80 gig ontop of the 40 to bring you to 120 and you can find those ~$60. Of course I understand that response is faster to get the 120 gig, 7200 rpm as the primary instead, and save the 40 gig as a back-up image.

You can get an 80 Gig for about $60. 40 + 80 = 120

As we used to say as kids, "Pinch, poke, you owed me a Coke!"
Seriously though, I'm seeing 120 gigs for ~$80 after mail-in rebates.

I just purchased the Directivo Phillips DSR708 with a dish system last night for $53.88. WITH a $50 rebate. Unbelievable deal considering the 708 is the 80 gB model. Total price 3.88 after rebate. I found it at American TV chain in Des moines, Iowa. I've been using a computer PVR for about a year - Myth TV - it works great - very close to tivo functionality. I was getting frustrated with the fan noise and my wife hates the computer in the living room. The only thing i will miss is the ability to export my tv recordings to divx format. maybe it's possible but I'm not sure yet.
American TV had this system set up for customers to play with. I'm amazed at how far tivo and direct have come since i looked at it a while ago. The Gui and functions look superior to the E* PVR's.

Picked one up at OfficeMax for 59.99 after rebates. I understand Circuit City had Maxtor for $60 as well. I suspect hard drive prices are going to go pretty low because of the influx of SATA drives.
THAT'S what I wanted to hear. Thanks, Larry. I think I'll follow up on that.

I'm waiting for one more price drop, and then a second 160GB goes into my DirecTiVo.
