I know a lot of people have had some runtime with the 811. I have read some of the reports. Should I pull the trigger and get the 811? (Plan on selling 6000 on EBAY)? My main reason for the 811.
New Interface like 508.
DVI interface (I have a Sony GWII LCD Display)
the Composite Inputs.
Faster interface.
Lower fan noise.
I know I am trading one set of bugs for another, but I figured that. I guess for 149, give it a shot and if it sucks sell it the 811 on EBay instead of the 6000.
Thoughts?

I'd certainly get the 811. It *eventually* will get it's bugs worked out and offers things the 6000 never will.... but...
I'd not sell the 6000 till you are happy with th 811 if the 6000 is your only HD receiver... I sold my 6000 for almost $600 last November, and I wish I had waited... still no 811 for me, and the 6000 average price on e-bay has dropped only about $100 since then.
Then again, the cash in my pocket is nice too... ;-)

Not if you're going to watch any SD content and you're happy with the SD picture that you get with the 6000.

Yes I do plan on watching SD and I have been satisfied with SD content on my 6000. I have a 60" so SD is shaky at best. I will be using DVI and I have read some post where SD was improved through DVI on some Sony models. Given that I have an LCD I would hope to at worse be the same.

Sad, but true...I wish I had never signed up for the 811 and HD pack. Lucky for me, my 811 is an "extra" receiver....I still have a 510 hooked up to my 52" hd set. No one can argue that the SD content when viewed via the 811 is inferior pic quality to other receivers. I ALWAYS use my 510 to watch SD programming. And HD stuff....yeah it's a little better then SD but high definition is WAY OVER HYPED!! How many of you really EVER watch any of the HD Stuff? I'm a big sports fan and I'm completely turned off by ESPNHD's offerings. NO Bowl games in HD....NO Pro-Bowl in HD....Just lots of college basketball and very little NHL, NBA...whoopee. I completely regret over signing up for the extra $10 a month. I'm sure you already have HD...so my rant against HD doesn't apply. However, as far as the 811 vs 6000 goes? I never had a 6000, so I can only say the I personally am very unimpressed with the 811. If you get an 811, be prepared for DAILY check switch error messages.

Was your 811 hooked up via component and your 510 hooked up via Svideo? or both on Svideo? I find it the statement interesting that SD PQ on same set coming from a 510 and 811 are drastically different. I could think of one reason and that would be if the 811 is through component and the 510 is through Svideo then the upcast is done on the 811 and for the 510 it is the TV that does the upcast.
When I got my orginal 6000 SD PQ was unwatchable in my eyes. I then got a Power conditionar, tuned the TV. applied some tweaks and it is watchable. Since I have a 60", I did not expect great PQ with a 3mb compressed MPEG2 stream. I consider this the nature of the beast but you should get equal to what the 510 gives through and Svideo connection. An interesting comparison would be 811 on DVI vs. 510 on svideo. They should at minimum be equal on a given set.

Both the 811 and 510 are using Svideo....the 811 also hooked up for HD stuff for the very infrequent times I watch it. Supposedly the 811 looks good when upconverting to 480p for SD stuff, but I don't agree...it looks like crap

In my humble opinion, the 811 is MUCH BETTER than the 6000 for the reasons you posted. With the DVI connection, the picture is the same or better. The 6000 is noisy and slow as molasses by comparison. I have both and have a hard time using the pokey old 6000 after using the 811.
Are 6000's still fetching a good price on e-bay? I purchased mine from Dish Network for $199. I find it hard to believe people are paying $600 for them.
