I just bought a new DVD/ Home theater. The manual does not address how to hook it up with a SAT receiver. I have an

Ultimate TV receiver with the following: Antenna (rf) connection; S Video in and out;RCA composites: Video out (2) Audio out (2) Video in (1) audio in (1).

My Toshiba TV has one RF in; one s video in; RCA type Video in (2) out (1)
Audio in (2) out (2).

Yamaha DVD/receiver: Input (RCA) video (2) audio (2).
Output: RCA Video (1) audio (1).
Monitor out: RCA Video; S-video (DVD-only-whatever that means); and Component out.

Can anyone advise how to hook this up for best quality. I know that should be s-video but not sure how to do it.
Thanks, folks.

Just connect the Sat receiver's A/V output to an unused input on the HT or to an unused input on the TV. It depends on whether you want to use the better sound from the HT system.

Currently, I have the SAT A/V connected to the TV. Since the great majority of the time I will be watching TV and not DVD's or listening to CDs, should I disconnect the SAT to TV connection and instead would run the SAT a/v output to the HT receiver input? Then, there would be no need to connect the TV to the HT, correct? With this setup, would sound still come out of the TV speakers? And, there's no reason to run video from the SAT to the HT receiver, is there?

I want to set this up so that I don't have to do any switching of settings if I want to go from TV to DVD or CD.
Thanks for your help and patience.

The whole reason to have the HT system is to get better sound, right? So for the best TV experience I'd connect the UTV to the HT and use its speakers. If you just want the UTV connected to the TV, then connect it that way. It's all a matter of choice.

JD, and Jw, thanks to both of you. While in most cases I would want the TV through all the speakers, there are times when we want to keep the volume down very low, such as if a spouse is sleeping. Having the option to have sound just through the TV speakers would be good so I'll set it up at jw suggests.
Thanks again.

I got it all set up yesterday and we are very pleased with the sound quality both from DVD and from the SAT. Thanks again for your help.
