I'm hearing more and more about folks calling Directv retention and getting free DTivos to replace their UTVs. How many of you have done this? Did you have to extend your contract time? Some people say they are getting 100 hour boxes from D* versus the 35 hour you can buy for the $99 specials at BB and CC. I'm reluctant to give up my UTV but if D* is going to let us UTV folks have a free Tivo it may be time to jump in.

Haven't called yet. Still somewhat reluctant to give up my UTV, but if the Tivo is going to be free I'll probably go for it. Another consideration is that, if I wait long enough I'm hoping all the 35-40 hour Tivos will be gone and they'll send me a 100 box.
If I do get a free one, I'll probably also go down to BB and buy another DTivo to replace the regular receiver upstairs. Won't cost anything extra since I'll already be paying the Tivo monthly fee. I just have to continue the five buck mirroring fee. Then, I'll basically have two DTivos for $99.00. I can then sell my UTV and other receiver on Ebay and come out way ahead.

No free Tivos...I just called and its not true. They are offering the same 35 hour (40GB) DirecTV Tivo's that you can get at Best Buy. They can't even give you any info on which one you might get.

Sorry...I should have included the price...which is $99...the same at Best Buy.

Okay, but I've read about at least two people on other boards getting this. I know about the $99 deal. That's for everyone. I'm talking about Ultimate TV owners calling customer retention at D* (not just customer service) and getting Tivos to replace their UTVs. Another guy got six months worth of rebate between the $5 monthly Tivo charge and the $10 UTV charge. Maybe it just depends on who you ask.

The funny thing...actually not-so-funny thing about customer service these days is it all depends on who you talk to. I've had it happen with D*, Comcast, SBC, and MCI recently.

Hopefully you are right...I don't want to give up my UT but I'll add a free TIVO :)

no they will not replace it with a 100 model tivo, my 70 hr non hacked utv went bad, needs a new hard drive, so they sent me a replacement because i have the extra protection plan, they only have 35 hr tivo's you will get a hughes or a phillips, they sent me a hughes with a universal remote, a big blue one, not like the tivo remotes at all, and the receiver is re-furbished one, i have contacted customer service twice on this because they sent me a 35 hr model to replace a 70 hr model, and they told me thats all they have.
