View Full Version : E* Volume fluctuates

Recently TV volume while viewing most channels becomes so low it requires adjusting the volume control far beyond what I consider normal. Then at a station break the commercials are screaming and we have to lower or mute the
volume.
I have a 508, 27" P/Tau and a 17" Cornea F/P lcd. Dish signals 110,119 67,are all strong, 115 to 120....with very crisp video !
Is any one else having inconsistant volume problems?

What stations are you talking about? Is it your locals? If that is the problem I could relate. My locals in Little Rock had very loud and inconsistent sound levels until I e-mailed dishquality@echostar.com . They called my number I left on the email and worked with me over the phone to tweak the volume levels until they were good and even on all channels. You can also email them for any sound or video problems with any of the Dishnetwork channels.

Mike,
The problem is on mostly all channels not only locals.
Thanks for the tip.
Do you have more than 1 receiver is the 508 the only one with problems? Have you tried a reset of the receiver? Have you talked to DISH tech support?

boba,
only the 508.
I have pulled the smart card, and also held the power on/off switch, and lastly pullled the ac plug. if that is what you meant to resetting the receiver.
The quality of the sound is also poor.....could the Panasonic Tau have
poor quality speakers.............i don't think so

Satellite boxes can not decipher stereo signals so what you are getting is a mono feed and when a commercial comes on however they do there audio enhancements they are ussually louder it is the same way with D*. how you cure this is use the rca outputs to your tv if your tv has them.

Been there done that.
Rear panel fo 508 feeds composite RCA for l/r audio and Svhs for video to the tv.
I suppose Iam going to have to contact E* and have them help me tweak the unit.
Thanks to everyone for your help.

I use the Pan 27 Tau with my 721 and have not noticed a low volume.
Likely the 508 is the cause if you notice the same on another TV.

What do you mean they cannot decipher stereo signals?

Through the regular coax connection all you will get is mono sound. I dont know all the tech reasons why but if you use the rca connections it gives you left and right audio on your tv or stereo like i said i dont know the actual reason but the regular coax conn. will be all mono.Try and hook yours up this way and switch from your channel 3/4 whichever you use and then go to your aux. input on the tv and you will see and hear the difference.Plus i forgot dish boxes also have a built in volume control so his problem may very well be with the box.You probably know what i mean now they will decipher but not thru the coax wire to the tv but if you can explain to me why i would like to know.

Jwwahly,
you are correct using an rf cable from the 508 to my tv would only produce mono sound......but if you look at my posts i am using composite rca for r and l audio and an Svhs cable from the 508 to my tv.
This hook up requires that the imput on the tv must be utilized. Utilizing either channel 3 or channel 4 is for an rf hook up, which is the least wanted hook up for quality pq.
however this post is not related to the original post i started....i just thought you might want to have this basic hook up info.

Here's why:
To get stereo sound from an RF signal, MTS stereo encoding is used.
MTS is used in OTA signal but not in DBS (or satellite) signal which uses MPEG2 encoding. The RF output of a DBS receiver is just audio/video through a channel 3/4 modulator and doesn't have MTS encoding for stereo.
