I have an RCA remote with my UTV. I want to program it to at least do basic functions on my new Yamaha home theater. The UTV manual lists codes for Yamaha VCRs but not DVD/hts. Someone on another board said that the RCA remote would not control any sound system or DVD that was not RCA.
Any suggestions?

Does the RCA remote have a function for searching for the codes? If you can't get it to work you could always get an universal remote.

I'm pretty sure this is a universal remote. It has buttons for VCR, DVD, TV, AUX, TV/WEB, and DirecTV. The owners manual gives tons of codes for TVs, VCRs, cable boxes, etc for many, many brands of products. Sounds like a universal remote to me.
I think I just need to find the right codes for my Yamaha DVD/home theater.

I'm not familiar with the UTV remote, but it sounds like the remote that RCA has with it's non-DVR receivers. The remote I have with my standard RCA receiver is identical to one at Wal-Mart that sells for $17.95. Does it have a function that searches for a code that will work for your receiver? It might not have a code that will work, the remote I have will not operate my Hitachi DVD player.

I have now been informed that the only DVD/HT receivers that can be controlled by the RCA remote are RCA DVD and receivers. Kinda strange, since the RCA remote will control just about any brand of TV/VCR/cable box, etc.
