Subscribers to DirecTV with Tivo service have wanted HMO (Home Media Option) since it came it. I know I have. I found this petition over at Tivocommunity.com to try to make DirecTV to offer this option on it's combo units. As far as I can find HMO would only require a software upgrade, becasue all the hardware is already included in each DVR. As I sit here today writing this, over 8270 [updated 2/15/04] people have signed it. Please sign the form, even if you don't subscribe to DirecTV with Tivo service. Thank you in advance! check out the Tivo coffee house forum over a Tivocommunity.com to see the full post by the inventor of this petition. visit the link below to sign the form! click here to sign now! :welcome_s to DBSTalk, mini1. I own a HDVR2 myself and find the Home Media Option quite interesting.

While I salute the people who circulate the e-petition, I am of the crowd who believes that electronic petitions carry little weight in the eyes of those being petitioned (http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/petition/internet.htm).

Call me old-fashioned, but when it comes to matters like this (and more serious ones), you might get a better response if you were to write directly to DirecTV, especially since they, not TiVo, are responsible for the software on the DVRs. When you write a letter, you actually sit down and spend the time composing the letter. In turn, someone has to turn around and spend time reading that letter. And, if someone took the time to write the letter, they often equate that to a couple hundred people.

Yes Mark, I do agree that in most cases online petitions are just about worthless. However in this case there is a letter at the beginning stating what the petition stands for and what the signers of it want. I have tried regular letters and E-mail letters to DirecTV about this issue and other issue and have never gotten any response worth noting, then them stating what I already know. So, I am left to believe that signing this petition is about the only option I have left. However if a big bunch of HMO supporters got
together and wrote lots of individual letters that may get us some where.
