Why, especially when your DVR fee will go up from $4.99/mo to $9.99/mo, is UTV better?

If you like UTV better, why not? If UTV stops being supported by D* when you have one activated, they'll have to give you a new DVR to replace it. I don't think you have anything to lose except the $5 more that UTV costs per month.

Disclaimer: I have no information that UTV is not going to be supported, UTV fans please don't hurt me.:)

Well sure then, if those extra features are worth an extra $5/mo to you, then sure why not switch back.

I say go for it. I like all of those features too. I'm not going to switch until I absoluty have to. I still can't believe Microsoft stopped making these units and that Tivo hasn't incorporated the features from it yet.

Go for it! I'm somewhat disappointed with my Philips DirecTivo. Audio dropouts (using optical cable), false 'Guide Data incomplete...' . Never had any problems with UTV..

Too bad I sold mine...

I agree. I wish Rupert would buy Tivo, then the rights for UTV from MS and combine the 2. :)

I sold off all but one of my UTV's a few months back and switched to DTivos. I like the dual tuner buffer of the tivos, but I really like just about everything else regarding the UTV.

I purchased 3 new UTV's this morning from a guy on EBay. If anyone else is interested, he is selling them for $150.00 new without any activation commitment. I have absolutely no association with this individual whatsoever, but I felt the price was too good to pass up and I thought I'd pass along this information to all of you.

Just do a Ultimate Tv search on EBay and you'll see the offer. He had 7 more avaliable as of this evening.

I miss seeing those in the stores. :(

Are these the ones you're talking about?

I wonder how reliable this guy is and where he got them from?

Thanks!

Good question. I guess I'll see in a week or two. His email address ends in webtv.com, so that may be a possible explanation for his quantity. Who knows?

I bit when he told me there was no sign up commitment. I could conceivably upgrade the hard drive and put it back out onto the market and make a little profit.

I am prepping the wife to go just the other direction - from UTV to Tivo. Here's my reasoning. I have two upgraded UTV's (one with 105 hours, and one with 70 hours) and one stock UTV. I could sell the UTV's for a good price and buy three DirecTivo's for an even better price. If I wait until the UTV is no longer supported, then they will be worthless, and there is no guarantee that they will give Tivo's to UTV subscribers. I'd prefer to get something out of them than nothing. YMMV.
