NDS, News Corp.'s TV technology unit, said it will provide VOOM, the satellite TV service from Cablevision and Rainbow DBS, with some of its advanced technologies, including conditional access systems and storage technology for DVR products, the companies announced Wednesday.

As part of the deal, NDS said it will protect VOOM's HD content with its VideoGuard conditional access technology. The company also said VOOM also will launch an HD electronic programming guide it built for the service, and the satellite TV service will use NDS' digital video recorder content protection and storage technology to launch new DVR products.

Also, the collaboration will bring to market an HDTV solution using a Motorola set-top box integrated with NDS conditional access technology, the companies said.

NDS already provides conditional access solutions for Cablevision's digital cable services.

Yeah only one problem that I see. They pick the company that had the worst record of hackers breaking into there cards.

F card broken
H card broken
HU card broken
P4 card broken.
P5/D1 Not broken ( but it is an latered p4 made by DTV)

Each one represents a new security system. And they have found ther way into everyone except for the dtv in house altered p4 called the D1.

Now some may look at dish net and say the same

rom2 - wide open
rom3-10-11 All had a the famouse Nipper bug ( kinda like a buffer overflow problem)
Nagravision 2 cams So far have not been broken into.

NDS is crooked and should not be trusted. Bad move on Voom's part.

Perhaps that was the best deal they could find. Why couldn't they use what they are using now? Or is that already NDS? If not why dont they keep what they have?

The way I understood it is that they were using Embeded non removeable chip like is what was found in primestar boxes and starchoice or Digital cable box. They make mention to things like dvrs etc. I dont know why that would change the way thigns are now. Does anyone even know what vooms location up in the sky wo we can look up at lyngsatto see what encyrtion they are using. Videograud is old and out dated every hacker knows the commands for it it just a matter of getting pass the smartcards security to gain asscessto its epprom on the card. At least with the newer nagravision card they are using a completely new insrutcion set taht will give hackers a hard time as they Nagra2 does not even share the same command with nagra one except for a few.

Could they be getting the new encryption for a lot cheaper price than the older one? perhaps they have no concern over hackers that much at this time since the hardware costs are so great and if they were to lease the system they would receive it back and be able to determine if they hacked.
