View Full Version : LNB Damage?

Got new Direct TV phase 3 dish. On one LNB there are some places on the white plastic that faces the dish that concern me. It looks like it was dropped or something hit it to make the translucent plastic more white. (You know how plastic looks when it is bent or struck)

Before I try to aim the satellite, is that a problem? Hope that it is not but hate to waste my time trying to aim it if that won't allow the signal to pass to LNB.

Thanks

If I was a buying (or selling) a used LNB (and it wasn't cracked), the white spots would not concern me in the least. These seem to appear on most LNB's somehow (in some areas I blame mosquito impacts). If you mount it and it works, give it a fews 'taps' with the handle of a screw driver, while watching the signal meter and if you don't notice anything your probably in pretty good shape.

But heck, It's suppose to be a NEW LNB.

Got nervous and went ahead and called expertsatellite.com to tell them what happened and they are sending me a replacement right away. Then I ship back the possible damaged one in the same box. No hassle, no hoops to jump through.
Way to go expertsatellite!

As long as the lnb is not cracked or the rubber o-ring seal is not broken for loss of a better word then the lnb is fine. Now over a period of time, and most installers have seen this, the plastic will start to deteriorate IE. fade, crack etc. letting moisture into the lnb but i think this little problem has been corrected over time by both companies.

I have seen white spots on MANY lnbf's that I have seen come with satellite systems and never had a problem with those.
