I'm getting Locals tomorrow (Grand Junction) & they will be installed using a second dish. My question is will the locals use the same coax as my Dish 500 passing through my outside wall or will I need to drill another hole in my brick to allow another coax access to my 811. thanx

Assuming they mount the switch outside, you will not need an additional hole drilled in the wall of your home. If all of the signal switching is done before the lines enter your house, you need only a single RG-6 line per receiver (or per tuner for multiple tuner receivers).

How many receivers do you have?

If you have 1 or 2 receivers, they will probably tie the 2nd dish outside with a 21 switch for each receiver. no new holes.

If you have more than 3...then there might be a problem.

Just 2 recievers so I guess I'm good to go!

It's irrelevant how many receivers are involved. If the new number of receivers matches the old number of receivers (or to be more correct, the new and old number of tuners match), and the switching is done outside, no new lines need to be run through the house.

For example, lets say you were using a DishPro Quad to feed 4 receivers. That requires 4 lines going into the house. Now you add a Dish 300, and add a DP34 switch (outside the house) to join the Dish 300 and Dish 500. There are still 4 lines going into the house.

If he has DishPro equipment, then yes, your statement is correct.

The reason I ask is, if he has Legacy equipment (receivers and LNB's) and more than 2 receivers, he would need a SW64, and those have to be mounted indoors. 2 receivers can be connected with SW21 switches outside.

When I got my "must carry", I had 4 receivers, but only got the 2nd dish hooked up to 2 receivers. All 4 of my lines run every which way, so a SW64 wasn't feasable (in my mind)

So yes..it is relavant to ask.
